Not crazy about the pink one, but the other one, quite nice. My own apt is 276 sq ft. excluding bath/kitchen, and I hate clutter. Some of her ideas are really nice, and very feng shui.
My own advice, which people always (wrongly) "dismiss" is: small apt, Big (normal size) furniture, horizontal, low lines. Yes, it really DOES make the place look bigger.

Eric, I remember seeing your vids sometime last yr. I just want to say that 250ish-300 sq. ft. AT LEAST is an actual apt. 75-100 is not. These are just broom closets in nice parts of town. (partitioned off from formerly large pre-war 6 room apts) I was shown one in 1977 when I was looking for my first apt. Back then, when the apt seekers showed up for the "open house", and saw the apt. one girl just shouted out loud in the brokers' face "it's a ****ing closet! Go blow"
(There must be SOME law about these closets??). As long as some sucker rents it...ah, well...

Ha, I completely agree with you. It seems odd to me that they're legal--obviously those buildings weren't built that way. I don't need a big space by any means, but I think I'd honestly always feel clausterphobic.

Oh vey, some of this spaces are tiny, but than again for a hundred bucks per month in New York I could make it work.

They are more then 100 bucks a month. The 200 square foot apartment I used to live in on Charles Street back in the mid eighties was going for $370 a month. Probably over $1,000 today.

Yeah, I would not pay the price those "closets" go for. Those look even worse than my college dorm room, which I had to share with another person.

My apartment is about the same size as the pink/orange one, and I've had a very hard time making it work. Seeing that video gave me some ideas, and made me very happy!

I was looking for a new apartment earlier this fall and I was shown a 150 sq ft studio behind Lincoln Center. The building managers had the nerve to call it a penthouse because it was on the top floor of a 6 story building. All the apartments on that floor were called penthouses. The price was $1500 a month. Needless to say I did not take it.

This is probably because I don't live in NYC, but the idea of paying $700 to live in a space no bigger than a closet just seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

I mean, I know apartments are expensive in New York, but $700 for a 78 square foot closet??

SNAF, I think the guy in the second posted link says he pays 100 per month?
There is a chance I heard that wrong :)

Wow, I knew New York was over priced, but no idea it was that insane.

Well, there IS "rent control", rent stabilized", and "subsidized" apts, if you get lucky. Yeah, it's pretty insane, Roscoe , I think the avg nyc population density is about 27,000 people per mile, or something like that. Crowded!

Wow! That one with just the huge bed would make me so claustrophic- well more so than I already am! I can't imagine living in that tiny of a space- even it is in NY! I think my kitchen has more sq footage than that and I live on half an acre- but it's in boring north Florida! Guess I better show this to my son since I'm sure he'll want to stay in NY when he finishes college!

And this is exactly why I'm always content that I live in the suburbs of NYC yet can still be in Manhattan in 25 mins if I want to. I could never live in something like that closet the girl is in, especially at the price she is paying.

Though the one with the bed that takes up the entire room still has some space in the rest of the apartment, or at least that's the way I took it. Her roommate is in the actual bedroom and she is in what would normally be billed as an office or bonus room.

I'm sorry, but any time I see these people get interviewed, I always get the sense that they are trying to act like they are actually trying to talk themselves and everyone else into believing that they are happy living in these closets. They go on about how they whittle their lives down (to nothing) and that they enjoy living in a space so small that you could sit on one seat, go to the bathroom, cook dinner and answer the door without ever having to get up.

My house is 2700 sq. feet and I feel like it's too small. I would freak in one of those little closets.

I always wonder how they bring people back to these apartments. If you're drunk and horny, is an UWS address all that impressive if it means you have to climb up on a loft bed one foot from the ceiling?

"they enjoy living in a space so small that you could sit on one seat, go to the bathroom, cook dinner and answer the door without ever having to get up."

LOL. And ew.

The bed lofts wouldn't bother me, as long as I wasn't so close to the ceiling. A few I could see as being very small bedrooms, but nothing more.

I get the exact same feeling. Still, in their situation, I would do the same.

We're still trying to figure out how to fit all this baby stuff in a little house with two BIG bedrooms, a TV room, a living room, a kitchen, a foyer and a big upstairs landing. There are only 2 of us, a cat and a dog living here. We've got 1300 square feet, but that doesn't count sloped ceilings, which we have upstairs. lol I have more floor space in my bathroom than they have in all of their apartments and I feel like we have too much stuff. I couldn't do it.

I read an interview where Sara Ramirez talked about living in an 8x12 apartment during most of Spamalot.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
