HELP! I need some ideas, so lets hear em!
I'm telling you--South Beach diet and pilates!!!! :)
Where do I get the low-down on the SB diet though?
buy or borrow the book from the library.
there is a site that you can pay to join, too. :)
I seriously think it's the BEST diet in the world as it is perfectly healthy, very easy, and makes the best sense--and after the first few days, not hard in the least.
Barnes & Noble. HAHA
I'll definetly look into that.
My sister and brother-in-law went on the South Beach program a couple of weeks ago. Neither one is heavy - they just wanted to tone up, shed a few pounds and eat sensibly. My brother-in-law is a doctor and he feels like it is a good plan - much smarter and more sensible than Atkins. (By the way, he lost 8 pounds in about a week and my sister lost about 4)! Good luck! Atkins is a joke....sorry to anyone who is on it, but I don't think anything good can come out of trying to get rid of carbs....just my thought. I'm going to check out the website for SB diet, just because I'm no where near over-weight either, but I really want to tone up.
well that's the things--on South Beach, you do not give up carbs--just BAD carbs. Huge difference! :)
Are you on it JRB?
Here's my secret to losing 115 pounds (which I actually did) -
First, I cut out all the crap I was eating and started eating healthy. I ate a lot of fish, chicken, rice, pasta, vegatables, fruits, beans and grains. I started losing the weight about a year and a half ago before the whole "No Carb" craze, so all I knew was that rice and past were low fat so I ate it all the time. Guess what? Still lost a ton of weight.
Secondly, exercise. I personally average about 90 minutes a day 6 days a week doing cardio and weights. You'll lose the weight and shape up fast.
Simple, huh?
Well, all that is very South Beach (except that one should eat brown rice and whole wheat pasta). You also give up sugar--which is not as hard as it sounds.
That is an intense workout for most people--congrats on that!!
The diet has done wonders for me!
Whoa, congrats Matt on losing that much weight! That is such a feat to be proud of! Thats fantastic advice as well. Thanks a bunch.
The South Beach diet is wonderful. It is very easy and very healthy. You will be a gorgeous hussy in no time.

No sugar after 6:00pm!
Hard heart pumping workout in Morning BEFORE eating a thing...!
A Good Breakfast, A Good lunch and a very light dinner!
Lots of water!
I lost SOME weight on South Beach, but not as much as I was supposed to. The book itself is rather exasperating and contradictory...in trying to find a troubleshooting part of the book as to why I wasn't losing that much weight, I couldn't find anything. Just alot of rah-rah, this diet is brilliant stuff. I had to go to the Atkins book for a more thorough study as to why some people don't lose as much weight on it (anti-depressant use hinders the Atkins part of the diet, it seems). Still I have lost some weight on it and there are people who swear by it so......wish me luck, I may have an audition for "Take Me Out" coming up soon, so...pray for me I get some toning and abs and stuff.
Honey just shut your hole and stop EATING!
I am thinking of training for a a marathon. I had a friend who did it. It takes sixth months to get yourself up to it eve for having never been a runner before. The idea is to train your body to use up its fat stores instead of the sugar in your body when you are running, burning fat stores=losing weight. On the other hand if I do it I will have to eat a heck of a lot more food and drink a ton of water so I dunno how much it will help.
I am too skinny as it is well I do have a tiny bit of fat in places that I would like to firm up. I need to find someone locally to train with me though if I am going to do it.

ok, i need help on how to lose weight too. i jog 3 miles everyday, and work out for at least 45 minutes. but i eat like a pig, so basically, i'm improving for track and all, but i'm not losing any weight. how do you break bad eating habits...?
Start learning about what you are eating sothat when you do eat you know exactly what you are putting into your body. And then if you continue abussing your body then what the hell; be a fat hussy for all I care.
MATT_G has the perfect idea... that is exactly what I did. I hear all my friends talking about these crazed juice fasts, slim fast and low carb things and I just think to myself...once they get off, their going to gain 2 fold. It really works just to cut out fried crap, stuff with a lot of sugar... make sure you eat 3 meals a day because skipping meals is the worst and you're giving your body no fuel to burn. I eat a lot of salads (the new salads from subway the garden fresh wooow it's excellent), baked potatos plain, plain pasta with a little sauce, salmon, california rolls..stuff like that. If you go to chinese food places order steamed dishes , brown rice. The rumor that Pasta and Rice are bad for you is total BS... you need carbs to have energy. I'd rather have a bowl of pasta then a "low carb" Chocolate bar that has 15 grams of fat. As opposed to the pasta which might have 32grams of carbs but only 1 gram of fat. Also, walking helps...running..crunches. Good Luck!!!
The no carb craze is out of control. I know a woman who won't eat most vegetables because they have carbs. She lives on cheese, meat and pork rinds. That can't be healthy.
The key is to get your carbs from the right sources. You do need carbs to maintain a healthy body but they should eb the type that burn off easier. Those would be the carbs from whole grain products and vegetables. Low fat meats like poultry and fish provide protien based carbs which are also good for you.
Mainly, you have to get rid of sugar from your diet, high fat foods, junk foods that provide the wrong type of carbs and you need to do some form of exercise daily. It doesn't have to be a torturous workout if that's not what you want to do. For people who don't like to do weights or run, things like that, there are other forms of exercise that can be fun. Try rollerblading, swimming, dancing even a long daily walk can benefit you. Pilates and yoga are also good forms of exercise.
Instaed of becoming obsessive about counting carbs and calories, you may have more success by filling yourself with a large glass of before a meal and making the majority of your meals consist of vegetables with a little lean meat. Replace whole milk with skim...you do get used to it, I've been using it for years and can't drink whole or even low fat anymore. Replace soda, if you must drink it, with diet soda.
For those of us who like our late night snacks, popcorn is a good choice (no butter sprinkle just a bit of pameasan cheese on it instead or a bit of chili powder if you like it spicy), fruit is another good choice and there are low cal, low fat ice creams available. Just avoid the chips, pretzels, Haagan Das and all those other delicious but evil foods.
Special note: vodka has very few calories and no carbs
Orion my hero!!!!!!!!! Vodka has few calories and low carbs. I love vodka and Cranberry juice. But that has sugar. I just bought the South Beach Diet book. It seems more sensible than Atkins.
