Okay, I'm on the Left Coast, and I'm holding my ears for the delayed Tony broadcast...
So I'm watching the TV Land Awards, and they're hilarious and wonderful!
Vanessa Williams just sang, "I'm Flying" from Broadway's Peter Pan, while introducing some of TVs iconic past... as they all FLEW in on wires over the audience. It was funny and (in a weird way) inspiring! They think outside the box, as it were.
Flying in on wires:
Horshack
Beaver
Maryann
Greg Brady
Nellie Oleson
Gary Coleman
...and the rest!
(watch it to find out who "the rest" is.)
Right now it's a Golden Girls reunion!!!

BWW glitches, be damned!!!
Kathy Griffin's paparazzi expose is friggin' hilarious!
Vicki Lawrence's "Mama" was just caught in a Britney Spears crotch shot by the photogs.
Folks, it doesn't get better than this.

"Vicki Lawrence's "Mama" was just caught in a Britney Spears crotch shot by the photogs."
THAT sounds hilarious! I don't think I have TV Land, though, and am pretty much glued to the Tony telecast.
P.S. Mamie, is that little Sam in your avatar? She looks adorable and very healthy! How is she doing?

Posted: 6/16/08 at 10:30amThat is Sam. She's doing MUCH better, thank you. She had a 10-day stay in the hospital, where she was on an IV getting anti-biotics to fight a bad bladder infection. They don't know why she got it but they're as sure as they can be that it's gone now and that she'll be fine.

Posted: 6/16/08 at 3:16pmI don't know what the TV Land awards are or why they exist, but if Nellie Olsen appears and is flying, I must see it.

Mister Matt---They're just silly awards with one-off categories like "Best TV Maid" that give the classic TV crowd a chance to get together, appreciate at each other, get a little star-struck sometimes and party.
While the awards themselves are not important, it basically serves the purpose of any other awards show: to promote awareness and celebrate "excellence" in the field.
They also have viewer's choice categories where you can vote in advance on line, and they have a lifetime achievement award that seems to be genuinely appreciated and respected.
What I like most about watching is that the show itself comes first. The awards are secondary, in fact... It's ALL about the fun show, and the group of people who have gathered to have a good time. So, the creative team behind the show really comes up with some out-of-the-box ideas, and the writing is pretty damn funny.
Past shows have featured medleys of famous old TV theme songs, where they have gathered the original performers together to do them (Cyndi Grecco doing Laverne & Shirley, Ja'Net Dubois singing "Movin' On Up" from The Jeffersons with a full gospel choir, the Brady kids singing their own theme song, and the original 4 guys who sang the Gilligan theme, etc.). They also had host Kelly Rippa fly over the audience last year dressed as Sister Bertrille from the Flying Nun.
This year, a whole bunch of TV characters flew in, while Vanessa Williams sang.
They had the full cast of Roseanne on stage last night, with both Beckys, a very grown D.J., etc. Fun to see people like that gathered together again!

Their web site says 5:00 pm this afternoon, 2 AM on the 19th and 10:00 AM on the 21st. It just doesn't say what time zone these are!
edit: it looks like it's Eastern time
