Traffic on December 23rd and 24th

I'm planning on taking a bus (either Megabus or Boltbus) from Philadelphia to New York on December 23rd. The estimated time for the trip is 2 hours 15 minutes. How much traffic is there in New Jersey/New York on the 23rd? I'll probably be leaving in the afternoon around 3pm and hopefully will be there around 5:15pm. Is this realistic?

How much traffic is there coming from NYC to Philly at 5am to 7am on the 24th?

Traffic might be slow going in because of holiday traffic and it being the beginning of rush hour traffic. You will probably be fine in the morning because you'll be heading away from the city and the roads are usually pretty clear early in the morning.

On the 23rd, I'd add at least 60-90 minutes to your 2 hour 15 minute estimate.
I live in nyc and it typically always takes almost an hour just to get out. More during holidays especially in rush hour.

I agree that you will avoid much of the traffic on the 24th since you are leaving at 5am.

I would recommend checking Gridlock Sam's Twitter feed a few days before you leave.
