Re: "Devin's Advocate"--I'm more than a little fed up with the "gays have made so little progress" line. Gay marriage wasn't even being discussed as a serious possibility 15 years ago. Pat Buchanan could give vile antigay speeches at the Republican National Convention which couldn't fly today. Domestic partner benefits are viable in most companies. The gays-in-the-military issue has a possibility of being resolved. Young people are growing up in a culture with some visible, positive gay role models (yes, we still might be playing maids and comic sidekicks, but compare that to our representations in Harvey Milk's time.) And Jesse Helms and Jerry Falwell are NO MORE.

Yes, there are Herculean struggles ahead, and prejudice is as virulent and mindless as ever. But let's not pretend we're still in the Victorian age.

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

You have it right roquat...we actually have come a very long way in a comparatively short amount of time if you consider the struggles of other groups fighting for civil rights. While not where I would like us to be, we are so much more vocal, visible and proud, than we were 30 years ago. We have rights I wasnt sure I'd ever see in my lifetime.

Look over your shoulders and appreciate where we are today....but dont linger there too long, there's too much further to go.

"Look over your shoulders and appreciate where we are today....but dont linger there too long, there's too much further to go."

So beautifully said! I was trying to get this point across to one of my best friends who just married his partner of 5 years in September and is now feeling so discouraged and upset about all the "Yes on 8" support he's been seeing. I, however, did not express it nearly as eloquently. Thank you doodlenyc.

Dont be too hard on him Evie, I was probably alot like him in my day, impatient for change...which is as it should be.

Suggest "Before Stonewall" to him...he'll see how far we've come in just the last 50 years...on the shoulders of people like Mr. Milk and so many more...

I totally understand where he's coming from. I've been out there with him with my No on 8 signs but I think he feels that we're not doing enough. I think I will get a hold of "Before Stonewall" and we can watch it together. I hate to see him so discouraged and sad.

The trailer is SO SO amazing. I cannot WAIT for this movie <3

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
