That only effects like the Subways and like the buses that go to places in NYC right?
It doesn't affect like Transbridge or those kind of buses right?

Right.

Though keep in mind, if the transit strike happens, a LOT more people are going to be driving into the city than usual.
It will be a living nightmare but it may be worth the short term inconvience
As I am from NJ maybe someone can provide some clarity for me...does this affect the Waterway?
NY Waterway, Staten Island Ferry, and Long Island Railroad service will NOT be affected, from last I heard.
Thanks
Hmm...if I'm planning to drive down to Newsical tomorrow at 8:15 and it takes me maybe 20 minutes or so to reach the GW bridge, when would you guys advise me to leave b/c of the increased cars/traffic due to the strike?
Give yourself as much time as you can. It will not be pretty

And also make sure you have three passengers with you, since they won't allow anyone into Manhattan with less than four people per vehicle.
At least that is no longer a 24 hour thing. They are just enforcing that from 8-11 am.
UGH! What a mess. Hopefully this will all get resolved soon--its affecting LOTS of people, and NONE in a good way.
Hmmm...ulgh, I don't have the tickets yet, it's just I won't be here next week and I really want to see it and it only plays till New Year's and tomorrow seemed like the perfect day. But the way you guys are talking about it, it appears it might be better to see if I can find any other day to go?
If it happens, which we will know shortly, I would stay completely away from Manhattan if there is ANYway possible.

Well, at least I won't be affected too much. I can walk to work and walk to the theatre district. I just have to wake up a little earlier. Maybe the lotteries will be slower.
Metro North is talking about going on strike in support of the TWU, plus they've been without a contract for a year. I've heard (but don't know for sure) that Long Island railroad may do a sympathy strike if it's not resolved in 24 hours.

If ever there was a reason to not live in the city (or at least work in the city). I have to go to work no matter what! I live a 35 minute walk from work! Damn this "need to be close to the theatre district" illness I have!

I wonder how this will affect Broadway shows- as many actors might have problems getting to their shows.
Tomorrow might be a good day to TKTS a hard to see show.

Just a guess; but as a lot of people (performers) live in Brooklyn and Queens, they might crash with friends. That's what my friends are doing!!
I live in Midtown and I'll have a full house tomorrow!
P.S. Here's a link to information regarding the strike and how to get around!
(Edit: Hope I fixed it...)

I lived through the 1980 strike that lasted 11 days - and that was in APRIL when it wasn't ten degrees outside! It was CHAOS. It took people hours to get to work and hours to get home (even with all the contingency plans in place) and you wound up at work for only a couple of hours.

Where are all of these people that are driving now going to park?!
Hopefully New York is kind of like Chicago--a lot of people have already started their vacations for the holidays this week, and hopefully those that can will work from home (maybe go in today to get stuff, and then not go in until afer Christmas or after things are resolved--whichever comes first!). I know if it were Chicago my office would close to all non-essential employees, so hopefully some places there will, too.
Also, check out Craigslist.org. I know that there is a Rideshare section, so maybe people who want to drive but don't have 3 passengers will put up a posting (or just someone nice who has an extra seat or two).
Judging from the traffic on the city streets for the past couple of weeks, particularly by Rockefeller Center and the theatre district, there are a lot of people in town already, so hopefully they'll still have that holiday spirit and will walk or cab around town to shop and see shows. Either way, though, this stands to be a major hit to the city.
