John Travolta's son, Jett, suffered a seizure and died while on vacation. I feel so badly for any family that loses a child.
Wasn't there a flap last year about Travolta and Kelly Preston denying that their son was ill? I hope their Scientology beliefs didn't stand in the way of needed treatment.
I've tried to post a link to the news item, but the link won't show up.

I think the flap was that there was a thought that the child was Autistic, and Travolta claimed that he suffered from Kawasaki disease.
His son was generally kept out of the public eye (which, is not a bad thing for a celebrity child, regardless).
My thoughts are with his family. What a terrible way to begin the new year.

How horrible, my thoughts are also with his family.
Wow, it must be so hard to have your child die, poor them.

My thoughts are with his family at this time. It must be the hardest situation for their family to ever deal with, especially since it is over one of their children.

This is so sad. =[ I'll keep the family in my thoughts.
That is so sad. The devestation that family must be going through just kills me.
Such a terrible thing for any family to deal with, but somehow it's even more tragic at this time of year.
My heart really goes out to them.
My heart really breaks for the whole family. Losing a child to a seizure is much like losing one to an accident leaving you asking what you could have done to prevent it. While I don't really care for Jon as a performer, they both seemed to adore the boy.
Jett had a history of seizures and many other autism like symptoms. I am not familiar with Kawasaki, so I don't really know if the same symptoms, lack of eye contact, hand flapping, jumping, rocking, etc. are common, but I have seen pictures and video of Jett doing those things. The fact that it LOOKS like autism combined with the fact that people with autism and other developmental disabilities are considered lesser beings within Scientology just make the diagnosis likely.
This is awful. Too often, I guess I forget that rich, famous people aren't invincible or exempt from family tragedies.
Does Scientology allow real medical help? Or just their own kind of treatment.

Condolences to Mr. Travolta's family!

They do for physical illness. They encourage "spiritual healing" along with the medical and don't approve of psychology. As I said above, they think those born with developmental disabilities are just lesser beings.
My thoughts and prayers are with them. So sad.

What a horrible tragedy to lose your child. God bless.
The loss of a child is something you never really get over- it just gets -different.
my heart goes out to the family
Oh, that's truly terrible. The best to his family.
Such terrible news. I can't begin to imagine what the family is going through... my heart goes out to them.

My heart goes out to the family (no father should have to outlive his son), but it's hard for me to put the idea out of my mind that the boy's death could have been prevented if they believed in using actual medicines and scientific procedures instead of Scientology.

So, so sad. The toughest thing I ever went through was loosing a sibling. And it wasn't even what *I* had lost, but watching the devestation it had on my parents. Very, very, hard. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

He had a history of seizures and his parent had sought treatment for them in the past. Sadly, even if it WAS autism, it probably couldn't have been prevented. They are quite common and the intensity is so so varying. If he did fall and hit his head, it would probably have been the same regardless.
"Although Scientology publicly states that they don't interfere with individual Scientologists taking prescribed medication, several former members have reported being told to stop taking prescription drugs and suffering negative consequences if they went ahead and kept taking them. Since these drugs were prescribed for serious medical conditions, including epilepsy and Grave's disease, these individuals were at serious risk if they stopped taking the medication.
Finally, Scientology claims that taking aspirin (used for treating Kawasaki Syndrome) interferes with forming mental images, so participants are forbidden from getting auditing for 24 hours after taking aspirin."
"Kawasaki disease is a syndrome of unknown cause that mainly strikes young children.
Signs of the disease include fever and red eyes, hands, feet, mouth, and tongue.
The disease can be treated with high doses of aspirin (salicylic acid) and gamma globulin.
Kawasaki disease usually resolves on its own within a month or two.
Some children with Kawasaki disease suffer damage to the coronary arteries."

Obie Wilchcombe, a parliament member and former tourism minister in the Bahamas, said that an autopsy is planned for Monday, and "we expect a quick resolution."
"John spoke with the minister of health and the doctors and police are at the hospital. They're very, very quick to resolve things," he said.
Yes, because they were SO quick to resolve Anna Nicole's son's death.
