Posted: 10/7/05 at 4:45pmKelrel, the possibilities for disaster if you refuse to have a needed C-section are endless. What if the baby can't survive a normal birth due to an irregular heartbeat or lack of oxygen? What if her cervix stops dilating? What if the baby's a breech and can't be turned around? How long do they expect the woman to be in labor? What if she gets exhausted? Frickin' morons. Do they want to go back to the days when dying during childbirth was a normal occurence?

The birth atmosphere of the mother-to-be/new-mother and the newly born should radiate with sociableness and comfort and human warmth. NOT SILENCE!

Posted: 10/7/05 at 4:55pmI wonder if they'll try to get the screaming newborn to shut up, too? I mean, you don't want those hideous cries corrupting his or her little infant mind.

It gets worse:
Scientologists believe in the "Silent Birth" method, in which newborns are neither poked and prodded in medical tests nor even spoken to in the first 7 days of life. According to their theology, because babies go through so much pain during the birth process, newborn babies should not be subjected to any further pain or sensory experiences that could return later in life to haunt them.
NOT SPOKEN TO IN THE FIRST 7 DAYS OF LIFE?
L Ron Hubbard should be shot.

Posted: 10/7/05 at 6:18pmThis kid is going to be messed up just from the media circus surrounding tom and katie without bringing all of this aliens crap into the mix.
#38re: travolta and preston suggest a 'silent birth' to katie!!
Posted: 10/7/05 at 6:31pmI knew from the get go that Scientology was messed up, but babies, and that includes newborns need to be spoken to, and sung to. I t is how they associate who they are.

Posted: 10/7/05 at 6:37pmI was going to post something snarky, but that info about not speaking to the baby for seven days has so disturbed me...

They have heard their parents voices throughout the pregnancy. Hearing them after birth gives comfort and continuity as they adjust to their new environment. They need reassurance and bonding to know they are safe outside the womb.
What a terrible, terrible way to treat a little baby by being silent around them.

So, no tests can be done to make sure he/she is ok?
What a smart idea!
How could a mother NOT talk to their baby!? I can't be in a room with a dog and not talk to it...let alone a child.

Posted: 10/7/05 at 8:14pmQuite right, Millie. A parent's (or any adult's) instinct is to communicate with a baby. Why would you go against what nature has prescribed?
#43re: travolta and preston suggest a 'silent birth' to katie!!
Posted: 10/7/05 at 9:25pmWe wouldn't but then again Scientologists don't exactly follow nature. I mean Scientology did allow Tom Cruise to breed, how is that natural?

We really, really need a voice feature here, because type cannot properly convey my scream of fury at this utter horses**t. How in the f**king hell can you expect a woman to be silent during labor without drugs?! And not talking to a newborn baby? Um, they *CAN* hear in the womb, you know. They're going to wonder where those comforting, familiar voices they got accustomed to went, and they're going to freak out.
With every day, I hate Tom Cruise more and more.

"Tom needs to have a watermelon shoved up his ass."
No, Tom needs a watermelon to come out of his pee-pee. His a$$ has seen enough action. Then let's hear him talk the talk.
Disclaimer: I am not a fan of Tom, and his last name (Cruise) fits him well.
(Is Pee-Pee politically correct?)

Posted: 10/7/05 at 10:26pmWhy bring it all back to Cruise? Travolta was the one who suggested the procedure, and L. Ron Hubbard was the crank who made up this "religion."
#47re: travolta and preston suggest a 'silent birth' to katie!!
Posted: 10/7/05 at 10:35pmBecause we hate Cruise. And, if he agrees to this, he deserves to have it brought back to him. I can't even express how disgusted I am with this "practice."

My sister is not into scientology but her religion also believes in having natural births without drugs. She said it wasn't as horrid as what most women make it out to be. And of course if something should even predict anything going wrong they go straight to a hospital.
Don't assume that if a c-section was neccisary that they wouldn't do it and endanger the baby. A natural birth is only an option if everything checks out ok. (like my sis... she had perfect hip shape and alignment... pretty much a perfect birth with no complications)
The "silent" part and no talking is way out there though. Won't that send the baby into like infant depression?

My wife had three wonderful natural births with limited intervention and no narcotics. (she never screamed - she used many acting exercises.) I support natural child birth and I am a great advocate of the Bradley Method. (PM me). This was our choice. This "silent birth" crap is nonsense.
