So we all know that U of Michigan's musical theatre program is fantastic, but how is their acting program? If you go there for acting are you able to take musical theatre electives? Thanks!

if you do music theatre you are not allowed to participate in any straight productions. You can do only musicals. it's because of the way the programs are set up within different colleges...MT is from school of music and Theatre performance is another department entirely.
If you are looking for a school in Michigan that is EQUALLY as good...look into Western Michigan University...top notch theatre department....great for MT
hm? I wanted to know how good the acting program is there. Not the musical theatre program.

Hey there,
The BFA Acting program is pretty excellent here at good old U Mich. I'm not a BFA I'm a BTA but I do take some acting classes and have tons of BFA friends who are constantly amazing me with their level of talent. The U of M theatre program in general (design, theatre arts, musical theatre, performance, etc...) is amazing. It's a great environment and the past few years they've relaly become more open to interdepartmental stuff, there's a much more open attitude toward acting majors taking some musical theatre classes and vise versa. So yeah, you should definitely check it out...Greg Poggi (the head of the department) is fantastic. Go Blue!
