Snippet: Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
White House Watch: Cheney resignation rumors fly
I'm torn between wanting to see Cheney go, and wondering if we (the US and the world) could actually survive a Bush presidency with no keeper.

I do not even know how to react to it. I fault Condi for her blind trust of George!
By the way, the "flipper" in the White House seeems to end up being not Rove but senior national security aide John Hannah, on loan to Cheney's office from the office of ... John Bolton!
Apparently Hannah was told he was a target a few weeks ago and cut a deal with Fitzgerald that pointed the finger at Cheney.
Not as sexy as Rove turning on Cheney, but, hey! More popcorn, anyone? Time for Champagne soon!
Oh my....all of the good ole boys down in the Southern red states would just love having Condi as Vice President.
don't tease me!
This whole long, leakless Fitzgerald investigation has been a tease!
Tantric politics!

A black female VP? The mind reels.
I'd love to see Cheney resign...it'll be fun to see if George can find his way out of that paper bag...
A resignation by the Vice President would leave a worthy taint on this administration, especially since the Veep has been enormously influential in this administration.
If Rove and Dick both fall, this entire administration is lain bare as the currupt disaster it is.
My cynical side still thinks this will fall through, but this is the best possible news.
I can't see Condi getting the call as Veep, but if she does then it is great just for the historical implications. (And hopefully would remove some of those last doubts about a woman actually running, Repub thugs like some in my family will no longer be able to say it is a pure "liberal" conceit.

He is much too arrogant to resign, but then again he might be tired and ready to retreat to his Wyoming bunker!
Is it selfish of me that I just begged Jesus to make this happen?

And, a few years ago I was at a function when Pat was speaking, muttering under my breath - now I look like him!!!!
I think having a black, female VP might just make all this worthwhile, if for nothing else than causing a few of them good old boys to choke on their own sexist, racist bile.
A girl can always dream . . .

No, no, this will give the white old men the opportunity to quote Chris Rock's "There's Blacks and There's N----'s" routine. See, they'll explain that Condi isn't really Black because she's the furthest thing from an "N-----."
A "final report" is what he would have issued if he had chickened out.
Instead we get indictments.
Savor these moments until then, sweetums.
And keep that Champagne on ice.
From that Times article:
"Given the political ramifications attached to Mr. Fitzgerald's decisions, officials at the White House have begun discussing what would happen if Mr. Rove was indicted."
How much do you LOVE that these discussions are going on inside the West Wing?

PJ - did you see my Karen Hughes quote?
This is very interesting. If Ms. Rice does end up becoming VP I think this administration might get one good mark in the history books. I always knew that at some point we would have an african-American woman in a real position of power in the White House (I just never thought it would be with this administration).
I would say that Karen Hughes is at LEAST ten minutes from normal.

Funny story jacob, the vice president, for the most part, doesn't really have any power.
