Ever since I started taking AP English, I've started writing all my posts the same way I write my AP essays, which is totally not the same way I talk in real life. I sound like an English-major hit man killed me somewhere around September and took up my identity or something.
So if my posts get really annoyingly pompous-sounding, just punch me in the face or something and let me know.
oooooo, yeah. I took AP English. Look how far it got me!!
(you're safe Schmerg. I'm saving all my face punching for Celery at Rent).
You're complaining that AP English made you sound more intelligent?
Seriously?
There's a difference between sounding intelligent and sounding stuffy and presumptuous, though. And I definitely don't want to sound like I'm putting on airs or something!
Schmerg, you have not sounded stuffy or presumptuous. You sound like a smart, creative, fun-loving, enthusiastic young person. You have a long way to go to even come close to sounding pretentious or pompous, believe me. You also have plenty of time--and the self-awareness--to avoid becoming any of those things, so you're way ahead of the game.
Don't worry so much about what anyone else thinks. And don't invite punching. If I don't like what you say, I'll simply throw a glass of wine in your face.
I wouldn't worry about it, Schmergy. You've always come across as very bright, and I suspect your natural charm will continue to shine through no matter how formal your posts become.
And at least you don't have my curse, which is to talk like an 18th/19th century naval officer whenever I've been watching historical naval drama. And I shouldn't have said that, 'cos now I have this terrific urge to watch Hornblower all night, and that would be AWFUL for my way of speaking... XD

I think you probably meant pretentious instead of presumptuous anyway, so you can't be that smart.
^ Haha, Phyl, that's exactly what I'm talking about!
I used the word because I've had "Truly Scrumptious" from Chitty stuck in my head for daaays on end.

My curse is to impersonate Colm Wilkinson and Alan Rickman all the time. It's kinda off-putting.

I always try to sound like I'm a musical with a book by George Furth.
I figured you meant "pretentious," but, unlike some people (::cough::Phyllis Rogers Stone::cough), I didn't want you to feel like a moron.
Ehhh, it's the internet. I don't mind it when people say things that'd make me feel like a moron in real life. Otherwise, how am I going to learn anything?
Besides, when you're as brilliant as Phyllis, it's difficult to keep it to yourself.
I don't think you've come across that way at all, either, Schmerg!
I understand where you are coming from Schmergy!
"You're complaining that AP English made you sound more intelligent?

I agree. We need more posters who make intelligent posts. I'm disappointed you're apologizing for it.
"I used the word because I've had "Truly Scrumptious" from Chitty stuck in my head for daaays on end."
Now, that deserves an "Ugh, Sorry" thread.
Obsessive Michael Ball Fangirl + Babysitting and looking for film to show kids = Bad combination!

I always try to sound like the guy on the Empire carpet commercial. And guess what, people tell me that I do.
"sings, 588 2300, Empire TODAY, (dog jumps on sofa)"
Oh dear! That guy's voice is like something out of my nightmares. I've never heard a voice that sounds so much like it should grow tentacles and slither away before.
No offense to you, Tommyboy. I'm sure you sound lovely.

Don't listen to Miss P. She ALWAYS sounds presumptive. You can totally tell she took AP English.

Schmergy -- that guy has been doing commercials since it was a family-owned business in Chicago 45 years ago. He must be doing something right.
Yeah, I guess that's true. (Though the same can be said for Billy Mays' tremendous success... and whenever I hear him, I want to rip my own head off!)

But to Billy's credit, he gets to hype lots of different products. He too, must have IT. Maybe when the old man at Empire retires, they should consider Billy.
