Despite reports that a resolution to the Writer's Strike is close at hand...
It's typically the hottest party in town on Oscar night — but not this year.
Vanity Fair has canceled its annual Academy Awards party, the magazine announced Tuesday.
"After much consideration, and in support of the writers and everyone else affected by this strike, we have decided that this is not the appropriate year to hold our annual Oscar party," said a statement posted on VanityFair.com.
"We want to congratulate all of this year's nominees and we look forward to hosting our 15th Oscar party next year," the magazine said.
...interesting.

"in support of the writers and everyone else affected by this strike"
I don't understand this thought process. It seems to me that going ahead and providing a venue for the industry to come together in spite of the issue would have been a good thing - not to mention actually providing work for a lot of people tangentally affected by the strike.
And since the strike is supposed to be over by then, I would think there's added reason to celebrate. Must be some other reason.
I agree, DG. It seems to me that cancelling the event only adds to the loss of work.
Bringing the industry together is what is needed right now. Not more loss.
Odd.
Read that this morning. I bet Tom Colicchio isn't too happy (isn't Craft his new restaurant?).

Dottie - I believe so - and this was to be the first one at the new location (usually at Morton's.)
Bet it is because there is no money. Conde'nast throws parties when it is sponsored. The loss of ad revenue would be my guess.
Conde'nasty, make decisions on dollars and cents. (Sometimes without making any sense)

The strike's imminent end isn't a done deal. There's cautious optimism, but nothing in writing. The rank and file are to be polled on Saturday, at the earliest.
