I JUST HAD MY REVIEW AND IT WAS A LOAD OF HORSE HOCKEY! A LOT OF BS AS TO WHY THEY CUT MY BONUS IN HALF AGAIN AND MY FOLLOWING UP WITH HOW I DOUBLED MY WORKLOAD AND PERFORMANCE AGAIN.

My dad is home, but may be in hospice soon. Treatment and surgery are pretty much off the table now.

Once of my best friends has shut herself off from the world and we are staging an intervention because she's shown signs of suicidal thoughts.

Another close friend is having surgery today for skin cancer.

My parents' dog was diagnosed with cancer yesterday and probably won't make it to New Year's. I will have the responsibility of putting him down when the time comes because my mother can't handle it.

Sorry, I just REALLY needed to get that off my chest.

Wow. Just one of those events could seem overwhelming. I honestly can't imagine dealing with all of them.

Oh my God. That is a lot going on. I hope venting here helps in any small way. There is only so much a person can take until they need a good scream...and shot of whiskey.

My mother, who lives with us, is in the early stages of dementia. She can't keep track of days/dates, times, names, or numbers. She can't manage her meds, or check her diabetes. We seldom leave her alone in the house, and never for an extended period of time. She can't write a legible check, but she wants to balance her own checkbook. She can't work her TV remote, but she wants to drive her car. I had to rig her door (unknown to her), so an alarm on my nightstand beeps whenever she opens her door. So now, I am awakened at all hours of the night, sometimes she has breakfast as 4AM, sometimes I send her back to bed, telling her it's too early to go to the beauty parlor. I get about 4 hours of fitful sleep a night. My brother lives in Florida, and we have no close family nearby. And I have nothing to look forward to, other than her condition slowly deteriorating. My wife has shown the patience of a saint, but my wife is disabled herself, and can only do so much.

madbrain - I feel you. There is only my brother and he is in Texas. He has another whole load of stuff to deal with there, so when it comes to my parents, it's just me. My partner lives in Spain, so while there is some comfort, it's mostly "virtual" until he's back in town.

Yeah, just had to deal with my estranged Father's death. Happened Monday. He didn't want anything to do with me while a live and healthy but once he was on his deathbed he put me in charge of everything. Thanks! Including dealing with intellectually challenged girlfriend who was 40 years his junior and her $69,000 debit card withdrawal stealing ways!
Dad always knew how to spoil the holidays for everyone. He does it even in death!

That all sucks, Mr. Matt. Sometimes it's just amazing how much sh*t can pile up on our plate while we trip to keep things balanced. Don't have anything in the way of real help to offer, but I have good thoughts a-plenty that I've sent your way.

So sorry you have to deal with all of this! My dad passed away September 13th and my younger sister, who is the least financially responsbile, is the executor. This is a girl who stole from a bank when she worked there, took my mom's jewelry whenever she wanted, and I have been getting calls from collection agencies at MY house asking for her. She pretty much manipulated my dad and so did her kids. She is only close to one of my sisters (and I see on facebook all the celebrations she has where she has not invited me and only that one sister is invited- even though I have opened my house to everyone for 24 years for every holiday) and has disowned the eldest sister. It's all so ridiculous! All my dad ever wanted was for all of us to get along. I have had knots in my stomach for months because for me- it's all about being fair and this situation clearly is not. So, I hope everyone with elderly parents has made sure that all the affairs are in order because this isn't fun! Anyway, Mr. Matt- I believe you have a lot of friends on this board who are very supportive of you! You can vent here anytime you want and if I lived in Chicago- I would so be there for you! Good luck with everything and try to keep your head up. You have so much to offer and things will work out the way they are supposed to!

Mr. Matt, I know we don't know each other very well, but I want to send good vibes and lots of well wishes in your direction. What you're going through is difficult - and I've had the unfortunate position in getting my hours cut as well. It's incredibly frustrating. Adding to everything else you're loaded with, it's just beyond stressful. As hard it gets, don't let it drag you down. Take each day at a time, especially with your relatives and friend. You'll overcome everything, I know you will.

Matt and Madbrian--I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

Can anyone tell me why life seems to have become so difficult lately? I know I'm not imagining it. Everywhere I turn, it seems as if everyone I know is having a harder and harder time.

I hate it. I hate it as much as I've ever hated anything.

I want it the way that it was.

Matt, I'm sorry you are facing ALL of this... I'm glad you've reached out to 'share' this with us (venting really does help!). Please know I'm thinking about you, and hope the good thoughts help.

Madbrian, I'm so sorry to read about your situation as well. It's just one of the most painful things in life to have happen.

To everyone in this thread who has shared, I hope for all of you some measure of peace and the ability to continue to find joy in life in the midst of all the crap that is being thrown on you.

PalJoey, I feel what you feel. I feel what you feel in a really profound way. And I hate it, too. I want to turn back time. Or at least freeze it. Because I really don't have a clear view of what lies ahead...

So, I have returned to keeping my Gratitude Journal.
Every night before I go to bed I try to find at least one thing that happened during the day, or a thought that I had, that I'm grateful for. Because even in the face of all this sadness and worry and illness and fear, I do believe that there is something to be grateful for. And that positive thought helps me immensely.

I'm grateful for the cyber-community. I really am.

I'm so sorry for what you both are going through, Matt and Madbrian...you're both sweet people who deserve better things going on in your lives.

Wow, I really didn't expect this kind of response, but I am so grateful for all of you guys. I'm not throwing a pity party or anything, it was just a moment where the urge to purge was absolutely overwhelming. Though you may think it doesn't seem like much, the statements you make are truly effective, helpful and deeply appreciated. It's all so weird. Sometimes I feel like I just have no idea what is happening any more. You ever have one of those bosses who doesn't care how busy and overworked you are, he just drops a giant pile of projects on your desk he needs finished yesterday and then tells you to "deal with it"? That's kind of how I feel life is doing with me right now.

But yes, I'm still keeping my sense of humor (I totally got the joke Sueleen and love you for that!) and I'm still trying to remain very much present in the world as well. I'm just...tired.
