Need a Vest? Check out ours!

I used to love vests when they were fitted and ended at the waist in the back but came down to two points below the waist in front. Now all you can find are the ones with the waist that is straight all around and below your actual waist. They look more like a shift or a maternity top or something Bea Arthur would wear. But I digress. Oh great, another internet "comedy" group.

Vests are the easiest thing to make- a GREAT project for a beginning seamstress! Pick the fabric you want to be the front of the vest and a complimentary lining- be creative! Your vest can be made from all sorts of fabric and you only need about a half yard- so you can use a really pricey velvet upholstery fabric and not break the bank. The get a lining- rayon, acetate, silk if you are feeling REALLY Flush! Cut one set of vest fronts from your fabric and two sets of fronts and four sets of backs and pin them all together- wrong sides facing each other! Sew the shoulder seams then sew the whole thing together- leaving the side seam open. Turn the vest right-side out and press it well. Try it on and have someone mark the side seams and then sew them together (right sides together again!).
Decide if you want buttons on your vest- if not, you're done!

Buttons are a snap- just pick the buttons you like and space them evenly (usually every 2 to 2 1/2") about an inch from the seam. Sew them on using a button attachment or by hand. Now if you want buttonholes, well, THAT is an advanced project.

I don't care for lapels on my vests. A pocket can add a bit of panache though.
I love vests with lapels. And double-breasted vests.

I tend to use vests with lapels only if I'm not wearing a jacket - but without pockets, wherever would I put my watch?

Yes- a double breasted vest under a jacket looks very snappy. I've switched exclusively to the wrist watch after the Great War.

Yeah, well, you were probably one of the first to get one of those television machines, too, JoeKv99.
