DG, I haven't forgotten what you said about those discharge papers on a thread about Clinton and the military a while back.
My admirtation for you is as high as ever, still.
I salute a distance cousin of mine who has died in this war.
Blessings to Spencer....died at 22 years old
Thanks and good thoughts to all who have or who are now serving. And to all their families for their sacrifices.

i get to see him for the first time since the summer of 04 in a few weeks :)

Thank you to those who served and continue to serve. We all may not agree about war or other things, but we should all be thankful for did/are fighting for our country.
Thank you.
To those who have served and will serve - Thank You.
Your service and your sacrifice are what has made this country great, and provided many of us with the freedoms that we take for granted.
May those still serving find a way to come home safely.
I honor their service.
And yours, DG, for posting this thread.
To my father, who survived Pearl Harbor.
A BIG thank you to the men and women who are currently or have ever served in the U.S. military. I salute you.

*sigh*
I, unfortunately, put an unwanted strain on this thread.
In the end, I hope that people accept and understand the sacrifice that some have made on their behalf. And that gift isn't dependent on any acknowledgment.

Thank you to all of those with the bravery to serve our country. You should be proud of your gargantuan efforts, and we, in turn, are proud of you.
I have a cousin who has been serving, so I wish him well and all who have or are serving.
Thank you to all that serviced. I am very thankful fo what you have done.
Lots of veterans in my family. My father was just telling me last night about his Navy trip to Vegas in 1967. Martha Raye was performing and when she discovered there were sailors in town on leave, she invited them all to her suite for a private party. It was hilarious discovering my dad partied with Martha Raye in Vegas in the 60s. LOL

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

I was lying in bed last night and realized that I forgot to post here.
I too want to thank all Veterans of all wars, and those who are now serving. I have family in the current war, and I know many of you do also. Best of luck to them and to their families. Thank you for all that you do.

There is a wonderful Requiem written specifically for soldiers who have been lost.
It's by Christian McCleer and if you can find it, it's truly amazing.

I want to give a big thanks to those who have and are serving in the military.
Family and friends of mine have served in the military on behalf of the United States since World War II, including my father.
When he died in 1999, the one personal effect of his I requested was a journal he kept while sailing the Pacific en route to Japan during the Second World War. It is tremendously moving to read his thoughts and commentary as a young man who did not know whether he would survive whatever was about to occur.
Yet, not one single entry was about HIM or what would become of HIM or what HIS future held. All he was thinking about was OTHER PEOPLE and how what he was doing was HELPING them.
I am so proud of my father, from whom I learned more about compassion and humanity than anyone else. I am grateful to everyone who has served this country so unselfishly. Naturally, on a personal level, I am most grateful to my dad.
Here is photo of my father that he sent back, signed, to his own dad.

MissP - this thread (and the other one, with all its attendent drama) was worth it all just for those sentences. Thank you. It perfectly illustrates the intent of the day.
Aww, DG. Thank you. That is so sweet of you to say.
Although he didn't know it while on the ship, my father wound up being in Japan for the occupation. He spent the next two years caring for people (he was a medic)...mostly native Japanese. He wrote that he adored Japan and its people and found no greater satisfaction in life than helping people to heal.
(P.S. I just got back from being away this weekend, so I just saw this thread and had to post. Now sure about the "other" thread, but I guess I should go looking for it now!)
