Aww, DG. Thank you. That is so sweet of you to say.
Although he didn't know it while on the ship, my father wound up being in Japan for the occupation. He spent the next two years caring for people (he was a medic)...mostly native Japanese. He wrote that he adored Japan and its people and found no greater satisfaction in life than helping people to heal.
(P.S. I just got back from being away this weekend, so I just saw this thread and had to post. Now sure about the "other" thread, but I guess I should go looking for it now!)
