On a (sort of/maybe/not really) lighter note, Friday my school got 3 new students (who are all cousins of one of the seniors) that had evacuated from Louisiana, and one was in my class. All of their families had left before the hurricane expecting to just be gone a few days and they each had a small suitdase with them. I'm not sure if their homes were destroyed or not, but they had to go to Goodwill to buy clothes. My school (a private school) is letting them come for free, and they are all really nice. We were in English and our teacher said, "Johny, does everyone know why you're here?" (Stupid question) And he replied (with a smile on his face) "I'm a refugee!" and it was kind of funny. Well it was funny. And the best part of that day was when the football coach (to our team of about 13) asked if he wanted to dress out for the football game that night. He did and he even got to play! But yeah, I guess the point of that story was to say that even some refugees are light hearted, even if their home may have been deystroyed, so lighten up! (to no one in particular, btw.) And um... that's the end of my story!

i know that many people have already bashed Captain on his ignorant comments, however i feel so offended by them i need to say something.
You claim that it's their own fault for not leaving. I am an evacuee myself and i need to defend my people. New Orleans gets mandatory evacuation orders all of the time. hurricanes are part of our lives. many people believed that katrina was just another, and their experience made them think they could ride it out.and, sadly, many people did. that, along with the fact that many new orleanians could literally not leave because of financial sitituations, gas, illness, etc., is why there are so many people stranded. please think before you make such stupid comments. this hurricane has destroyed thousands of lives, including my family's. we did not evacuate, but left after the storm. so far, everyone in my family is ok. most people cannot say that. i am not meaning to make you feel guilty, i just want you to understand how offensive your words can be. those people who you claim are dying because of "their own damn fault" are my friends. just think before you speak, ok?
I have no pity for people who ignored the warnings and chose to stay in a city under sea level. It's their own damn fault.
Sorry for sounding like I don't care. I'm just sick of hearing about it. Same thing with 9/11 and the tsunami. People die. Life isn't fair.
Everyone had equal oppertunity to leave.
C_O: You are a sick, ignorant, STUPID creature.

C_O, I've always hated you and your moronic comments. I have to join DGrant in hoping that you post these idiocies purely to provoke - surely you're not really the mentally defective ****wit you seem.

Don't waste the bandwitdth. You are just giving Oblivious what he/she wants.
EDIT - Oblivious is a Man - and I clearly have no idea what he wants, though he does "like to throw a little drama every now and then."

I'm a man, honey and what do you know what about what I want? You don't. So shut up. I'm gone. "For Good!" for all you wicked junkies out there.
I'm a man
Doubtful.
But I hope you meant it when you said you're gone for good.

I absolutely agree that this filth is not worth anyone's time or energy. However, I will take just one little bit more space here to make sure the Captain knows something:
Never again, as long as I have awareness of it, will you participate on this board without me bringing this thread to everyone's attention. You may get your kicks from it, but then you want to back off and act like nothing ever happened. Just be aware that I will make sure that people know it is here - and then they can decide whether they want to 'play' with you or not.

And then like untreated shigella, his crap erupts all over the place just when he hopes everybody has forgotten his stupidity.
You don't actually think he has any idea what shigella is, do you?
Maybe he would be gone for good if you all would just IGNORE HIM.

it's hard to ignore such offensive and disgusting comments. even if they are only for attention.

Dingleberry: The Return usually goes something like this. After swearing he's gone (for GOOD!) he reappears on the main board. An interjection in a harmless thread here, a jejune comment in a thread there, and some (generally younguns) posters do the obligatory "Oh my god, you're back! Welcome back that's so great!" They of course only recognize the screen name as one that is vaguely familiar in some way, not who Obvious is, explicitly.
And the cycle begins again.
Obvious's posts are like internet herpes. Nasty, unwanted and keeps reappearing.
the outpouring of help and the kind wishes are so very heartening. There are lots of wonderful and caring people in this cyber theater community. Most of you, make the world at least a little bit better than it would be, without you. :)
there is still not enough help.........living creatures are dieing by the second........Why haven't we accepted the Israeli government's offer of virtually everything they had? They would have thousands of paratroopers breaking through attics and every floor of every building.........Every second is precious.............The heads of FEMA and others still do not "get it." It is impossible to have too much search and rescue.................This crisis seems to get more shocking every hour.

Well, yes, we know it's FEMA which stands in part for Federal Emergency Management. But Karl Rove has decided that everything that has gone wrong is the fault of the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana.
Help is apparently being rebuffed a LOT in this situation.
thanks sweet people,,,,,as I mentioned, the PMs are kinda overwhelming and that is why I responded with the telephone conference call taking place..........MOST of you involved already have the 800 number I set up and the pass code.......REMEMBER--the conference call is 9pm this evening, eastern time.......Tuesday night...............Anyone else wanting to get more actively involved PM me for the conference call message...........Much love and thoughts of health and happiness to the fabulous and caring people here!!!!
I can't imagine the kind of sick, heartless person that could such statements as those I've read in this thread. I would, however, love the opportunity to meet Captain Oblivious in person just to slap across the face.
Some of the comments that spewed forth from the mouths of CO and some others on this board are as foul and disgusting as the sewerage contaminated water that fills New Orleans. I dare say, some people around here are worth nothing more than excrement that flows from that sewerage. Thankfully, they do not make up the majority.
Perhaps those people in New Orleans should have logging on here and made obvious public hints to Beaverhausen to let them go to San Francisco and stay with him. How stupid of them not to have thought of it.
Oh, Nina, he is gone. I am so sorry, but Captain Obvious has left the board...again.
