re: Viva Diahann Carroll

You have great taste fflagg.
She is very underrated as an actress and as a singer.
She's one of my favorites.

Takes one to know one. :) There is a recent CD of hers combining two albums from 1962: one with Andre Previn and one a live recording. Check them out on amazon.com. A diva experience.

She still looks amazing.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

She did a concert entirely of Lerner/Lowe songs that was amazing!!
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

She's marvellous on the "House of Flowers" OBCR. Even if her voice goes out in "I Never Has Seen Snow" and Harold Arlen has to sing one of the notes for her.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

She had the flu at the time of the recording. There is a great Streisand perf of the song on her 1973 TV special just out on DVD.

Am I the only one old enough to have loved her in Julia, her groundbreaking 1968 television series?

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

I wrote her fan letter, care of NBC Studios in Burbank and she sent back an autographed picture.

I also wrote letters to Elizabeth Montgomery and Sallie Fields.

Wonder what happened to that picture...

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

oh my god...I still have my autographed Jamie Summers photo and official "Bionic Women Fan Club" certificate. It has a gold seal on it. A GOLD SEAL!!!

Why do I still have it? I don't know.

I did actually try to get rid of it at my friends garage sale once. No buyers. re: Viva Diahann Carroll

But.....back to Diahann Carroll.

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

I have to say my favorite film performance of hers is in "Paris Blues". She was fantastic in that role, and I love the movie on a whole as well.

Does anyone know if Newman was playing the trumpet himself in the club scenes?

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

Diahann Carroll is excellent! I loved her in "Julia" (I used to watch "Julia" with my Grandmother, that was our show!) as well as "Dynasty" and everything she has ever done. She does still look & sound amazing and I believe is touring now as well (or soon!)
Brava Diahann Carroll!!

Loved 'Julia' and thought 'Dynasty' was hysterically bad.
Her recording of 'Sunset Blvd' is great and I have her on DVD with Judy Garland. Beautiful lady!

No Strings is still one of my favorite cast recordings of all time. She has a lot to do with it.

Indeed. And do not forget when she gets down in "Claudine". :)

re: Viva Diahann Carroll

I will seriously date myself.

I saw No Strings with Diahann Carroll shortly before she left the show. This was the first show I ever saw on Broadway (only tours up to that point), and No Strings is very dear to me for that reason as well as the cast, unique staging, design and that score.

Yes, I have the Playbill and the ticket stub and the tile hot pad with the show logo on it that theatres were selling at that time and which hangs in my kitchen.

Encores really screwed this one up.
