Vocal Warm-Ups/Mixed Voice#1

Hey!

I was wondering, when I hit a high note (a G5), my voice sounds weak, like it can't hold it. But then when I go into my vibrato, it sounds fine. Does anyone know any good vocal warm-ups where I can strengthen my voice, and produce a good belt?

Also, I've heard people sing in a mix voice, and have always wondered how they do it!
Does anyone know how to do a mixed voice? Any warm-ups or exercises?

Thanks!

I guess noone knows. I have no clue, but I assume that if you play a note on a piano, belt it, sing it in head voice, and try to find a middle ground you can find your own mix. I'd advise you to do this with a voice teacher.

I know a few, but it is hard to explain over the internet. Especially when I can't find the right termology.

Ones like going up on a three note scale and singing "Ma" or "Na" and staying on the highest one for three hits. Like ma ma ma MA MA MA ma ma ma.

BwayTday:

Was that for the Belt? or the Mix?

Does anyone have any videos they could share on the subject?

That's for mix. You aren't supposed belt the top notes, you're just supposed to let your voice go. I'll try to figure out on a piano so I can give you a more detailed description so you can actually do them.

Keep everything lifted and light at first. Don't focus on the belting until you can really commit to the head voice. Once you have that, add on the belt and it should come naturally. :)

A video for warming up the entire voice( mix/head/chest )AND the body is about to be released called The Broadway Warm-Up. It was created by Broadway veterans Kim Stern and Deidre Goodwin. Check it out at the link below. You can pre-order your copy from the Kickstarter page.

Always make sure that you have proper belting technique. I couldn't tell you exactly, but I'm sure you could google it. Basically try to reduce any tension and stress in your vocal chords and jaw.
