I used to watch this show simply because it was cheesy & entertaining
It is hard to believe it was over 40 years ago. It seems like only yesterday. The actors chewed the scenery with gusto. I think some actually believed they were on a sub. Richard Basehart was an underrated actor & really put his all into this role as bad as it was.
Mad magazine did a devastating parody "Voyage To See What's On The Bottom". Every episode had the obligatory swaying of the sub back & forth so people were thrown all over the place.
The creatures were like something out of a Roger Corman movie. One memorable one was fungus that grew to epic size & wound up looking like The French Tickler that ate Cleveland. Naturally the bad guy (in this case woman) got eaten by it.

I always wanted to have David Hedison's baby!
Here he is with Inger Stevens, another favorite of mine...stared in the Farmer's Daughter, a series I loved, and sadly comitted suicide
They rocked people back and forth, long before Star Trek or Lost in Space. Her name was Inger.
We just LOVED that show as kids, as inane as it seems today. Richard Basehart was sooooo Shakespearean, and oohhhh those sea monsters and the cool theme music. Mom always chastised us for watching it, calling it stupid, but Dad had control of the one TV in the house!
Remember the Hollywood film in 1960 that preceded it, with Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, etc.?
