perhaps my expectations were too high---but i thought it was really really really long. There were some hilarious things, and some good editing that introduced energy, but not enough of the interaction between Wilson and Vaughn (which was the best part of the movie, their chemistry). i also found Ferrell's lengthy cameo just not funny, and i usually really like him. The gay subplot really was pretty muddled (and fairly offensive) as well.
Am i alone in my disappointment?
I liked the movie but I thought they stuck around a half hour too long, too.
It's simple romantic movie formula: boy meets girl through lies, they make each other laugh and share a kiss, they almost get together when boy gets caught in lies, girl gets mad and either a) prepares to marry cad or b) prepares to move to Europe, boy mopes, then vows to get girl, boy catches up to girl right before she either gets married or moves to Europe, gives a speech that is both sentimental and funny and all is forgiven. Credits.
The amount of time in the movie between those last two points is a bit too long. I think they tried to show Wilson's descent into despair for a bit too long and, unfortunately, he just sort of became a riff on Adam Sandler's character in 'The Wedding Singer.' By the time Ferrell rolled up I just wished they'd get on with it.

But it's the best and most alive Vince Vaughn has been in anything since Swingers.
yes, Vaughn is quite good in it. And those Wilson brothers are always worth watching. i was just surprised at the crackerjack editing in some sections and the glacial pace of others. For instance, the "Owen crashes weddings alone" montage was just WAY too long. We got it. Move on.
I walked out. I thought it was boring and then the topper that sent me out was the OFFENSIVE scene with the son. Cheap and offensive.

Haven't seen it. Won't see it. But I love me some Wilson brothers. Go homies.

The Wilson brothers live in my town.
...Ferrell should have just been left out. It was lengthy enough. Bringing in a new character was just pointless. *sigh* If they went back and took some stuff out, it could be a really great movie.
I would have found the son offensive if I hadn't dated someone EXACTLY like him when I was 19.
I thought it was pretty funny. It gave me something to do for 2 hours lol.
I agree Parks; when Will Ferrell appeared, I think I may have audibly groanted.
I found the movie a little funny and some times it was tupid it was my first R rated movie in the theatre though LOL I sound like alittle kid... OH Well
