"Ah," said God, "that's the Jersey Shore, the most
glorious place on earth. There are beautiful streams,
beaches, bays, and climate. The people from there are
going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and
humorous. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking
and high achieving and travel throughout the world."
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then
proclaimed, "What about balance, God? You said there
would be balance, yet everyone and everything seems so
perfect in this place you call the Jersey Shore..."
God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the assholes
I'm sending down there from New York and Pennsylvania
every summer.

No fair! I'm from PA and I've been to Jersey once and I was very clean about it. I was appalled at how awful the beaches looked, though, and how much they made us pay to get in.
Good joke, though

Love it, Boobsie...
As a "down the shore" Philly kid, and now a homeowner there, I buy that this convo w/ God actually happened.

Love it!
My family has a history down on Long Beach Island on the Jersey shore, so we especially hate it when annoying New Yorkers (who drive down the wrong way on a one-way street, as I've observed) come down and overcrowd it. Unfortunately, the town we stay in is a tourist attraction, so we just have to bear it.

Cal....I keep forgetting what BENNY stands for...it's Like...Brooklyn,Elizabeth,Newark,NewYorkers...see the 1st letters make up the name..aren't they clever those Jersey Shore people.

Ah, I looked it up.
It seems BENNY is more commonly used in the northern Jersey Shore areas, while shoobie is the preferred term further south. Shoobie comes from the time when tourists used to bring their lunches in shoeboxes.

This was bothering me earlier because my old memory was failing me. We called them Bennie's on LBI when I was growing up (tho that is what we were essentially, tho we owned a house there for awhile.
Now that I am much further North, and only NYers commute, there is no name for the encrouchers that I hear.
I will do a poll this weekend.

Posted: 6/7/06 at 4:29pmI lived in Atlantic County for more than a year and had never heard the term Benny until today. Shoobie was the only one I had heard. A shoobie was, however, responsible for totalling my car.
