WOOHOO!! I am RICH (according to Obama)!!

WOOHOO!!! I am RICH!!! At least I am rich according to President Obama. As of today, my paycheck is now $37 LESS than it was in December of 2012!! That comes to $74 a month, $888 a year!! And remember, Pres. Obama PROMISED that those of us making LESS than $250 thousand a year would not see ONE DIME in tax increases. See the video below for those with bad memories. But That's ok; at least I know my money is not being WASTED!!

Thank YOU, Pres. Obama and EVERYONE who voted for him!! YEAH, BABY!!
Obama's tax promise BROKEN as of 1/2013

I am not a defender but the extra money taken out is the reinstatement of the normal amount of the social security tax. To continue would further weaken an already weak social security system. This was extended a few times because of the economy but was a necessary step toward getting a bit of fiscal sanity when it went back into effect. The extra money is nice but a viable social security system is better

Could it be that your employer messed up?

Or that your city passed something and that's why your taxes went up?

You're quick to blame Obama, aren't ya?

A "viable" Social Security System?? THere is no VIABLE Social Security System; there is no social security system! Money collected from the payroll tax does not go into some "Social Security LOCKBOX". It goes into the general fund where the Congress pisses it away!

http://www.debt.org/2013/01/14/payroll-tax-hike-could-throw-economy-in-reverse/

"The government is taking a bigger bite of American workers’ paychecks this year, which could mean another slowdown of the U.S. economy.

American workers are paying 2 percentage points more in Social Security taxes this year after Congress and President Obama allowed the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut to expire on Jan. 1. The slight increase means that workers, on average, will see $18-$20 less a week in their take-home pay."

What am I supposed to be defending? I am all in favor of raising taxes in order to ensure that the social safety net remains in place.

Go Obama!
You think, what do you want? You think, make a decision...

Instead of automatically raising taxes as the. answer ( for everything) why not raise the amount of income subject to social security taxes.

This may come as news to you but Presidents don't get to write and sign bills. There's a little something called Congress and this is what they passed after hand-wringing and threats of it getting blocked from Republicans. You can have this bill which lets a temporary reduction in social security tax rates to expire or you can have Obama sign nothing and allow across the board income tax hikes if Republicans got their way and nothing happened as we went over the so-called cliff. Up to you!

Yes, your taxes didn't go up. A short vacation from one of your taxes ended on its own with no one's help, Republicans or Democrat.

Thank a Republican

The 2% reduction in your FICA taxes came courtesy of the stimulus package put together by Obama and the democrats. Obama had asked to extend it during the "fiscal cliff" fight, but the Republican Party insisted on it expiring on schedule. I happen to think it should have expired and am fine with paying a little more- as Roxy explained.

But if you are upset, be upset with the republicans- this was their choice.

Thank a Republican

It was the rate we were paying two years ago--it was a tax holiday of two percent--it's back up from 4.7 to 6.7. And I'll agree--it hurts. My check took a big hit and with no raises this year and a corporate-mandated high deductible health plan, it just sucks. I personally wish it had been extended. But blaming the President doesn't make sense. He had asked for another extension but Congress refused.

And Jordan, I love that Nene moment!
