A fairly uncommonly produced show opens in NYC...

Horse Trade Theater Group will present a Counting Squares Theatre production of the classic Georg Büchner play Woyzeck beginning Sept. 23 at Under St. Marks.

In this new and gripping adaptation, set in the present day South we will take a poignant look at the effects of wartime on young men. After seeing war and bloodshed, Franz Woyzeck returns home to his lover and child. Unable to reintegrate into society, perform sexually, or relate to those around, he is thrust into a world of confusion and chaos. Incorporating Andrews Sisters style music throughout, this production is both timely and entertaining.

Show times are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7 PM

How is incorporating Andrews Sisters style music timely?
As much as I love them, wouldn't incorporating the music of someone a little more current be more timely?
Say, for instance, the music in the style of Betty Hutton.

The production is timely because of the subject matter. The music is meant to hearken back to WW2.

Oh, I get it. Like "Chicago" has music that harkens back to the 1920's, right?

I've seen three productions of this work and fell asleep through each. Just not my cup of tea.

See, that's why it needs the music of Betty Hutton.
At least you'd be sure you'd wake up during "It's oh so quiet".

I saw a production of Woyzeck at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn in 2006. Was FANTASTIC.

The cool thing about the show is that it has so many different possibilities. When Georg Buchner died his work wasn't officially "finished" with Woyzeck so each production really is extremely different. Any show put in the wrong hands, or not done well, can be boring.

Check out the movie version with Klaus Kinski. It's quite absorbing.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Agreed. It takes some interesting departures from the text.
