I was talking with my drama teacher and for next years show we decided we wanted to do something different. So to make a long story short, we came up with the idea of adapting 'Waiting For Guffman' into a stage play!
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Also, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the script? AND, how would one go about finding a way to get rights, considering it was never a stage show?
Thanks for all of your help!

I guess you could make it like a "documentary-play" like The Laramie Project or something
Maybe you could do something with actually filming out the interviews and then acting out rehersals/performances.
The one problem you'll have is that ALL of the movie was improved which makes it so hard to recreate, because those are genuine moments. Good luck!

Umm... I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the writers of WAITING FOR GUFFMAN would never allow a bunch of kids to adapt it into a play.
Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy are credited as the screenwriters, but in actuality. all the actors improvised their dialogue, working from a outline for each scene.
I don't think it will ever work as a play. You can't rehearse over and over something which is meant to be spontaneous. It would ruin this marvelous piece.
