I think we all agree the question that kicked off this thread was foolish. Perhaps Corine2 was in such a fit of pique at having been bored to death by SIXTEEN WOUNDED that she didn't realize what an obvious query, What's the deal with so many plays about war, is. Kinda like asking, What's the deal in December with all the TV shows about Christmas?
I'd also expect that a discriminating theatergoer would pick up on the war commentary in the many plays produced recently that aren't specifically about Iraq, as EMBEDDED is. There have been two proudctions of Aeschylus' THE PERSIANS by prominent NY companies in the past year. That play normally doesn't get produced too often. Why the sudden interest? Same reason LYSISTRATA's being done hither and yon.
There's an article in the current Voice about the political underpinnings (at least as observed by the columnist) in recent movies:

If the common subject of SIXTEEN WOUNDED and EMBEDDED suddenly has you baffled, you probably haven't given the deepest thought to themes in theater you've seen.

I was on a long drive recently and stopped at a rest area. What IS the deal with rest? Why are they called RESTaurants? Does anybody really go to a rest room to rest? I know in the old days I was highly active in rest rooms, it's where I perfected my technique that still wins me limbo contests today? And what IS the deal with limbo>?
does anyone know anything about tony kushners new play? im sure i read somewhere that it is something about barbara bush reading to dead iraqi children. i dont know if he is still writting it, or what. someone care to enlighten me?

Well, he's written a half hour scene from it. He swears he's going to finish the play, "Only We Who Guard The Mystery Shall Be Unhappy." He published the first scene in The Nation. I saw a staged reading of it. And yes, it features some children killed in war. What is the deal with that as a topic?
What is the deal with you people?
Maggots drop and give me 69.
Jack42...time for a recap, maybe?
