Wasilla billed victims for cost of rape kits

In 2000, Alaska's governor (Palin's predecessor) passed a law barring counties and municipalities from charging rape victims for the cost of rape kits. One of the towns that had been charging victims - Wasilla.

Brian, no one even cares about this. Palin is "refreshing" and a "maverick." She is a hockey mom with lipstick. Millions of women are willing to sacrifice the liberty and future of their own daughters to get back at the chauvinistic Democrats for not nominating HC.

Without getting into the politics here (because I am going to live in an underground fortress until this election is over), it is my understanding that the police actually bill the victim's medical insurance company as rape kits are usually processed by the same medical labs that process other hospital tests. That is one of the reasons why the exam is customarily performed in a hospital or Op setting by medical and not police personnel.
