Conventions really don't give a boost to anyone. Most people watch to either agree with what they already believe or disagree with what they don't. The polls tend to change, during the debates. Ronald Reagan was 14 points behind Jimmy Carter immediately following the Republican convention, but closed the gap during the debates, and well, we all know what happened.
