Mark your calendars. It's the end of an era.
I wonder if J.K. will ever write another book.
Perhaps something more adult oriented?

She's gonna get all "Judy Blume" on us in this one.
The "adult" version, indeed.

I am having trouble with the link. Is this related to the release of the final book? Can someone help out and post a little blurb of the article?

Here's the whole thing:
Rowling: Final Potter Book Out in July
By Associated Press
Published February 1, 2007, 7:57 AM CST
LONDON -- "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the last of seven installments of the boy wizard's adventures, will be published July 21, author J.K. Rowling said Thursday.
Rowling announced the publication date on her Web site.
Bloomsbury, her British publisher, said it would publish a children's hardback edition, an adult hardback, a special gift edition and an audio book on the same day.
Scholastic Children's Books, the U.S. publisher, said it would offer a hardback edition at a suggested retail price of $34.99, a deluxe edition at $65.00 and a reinforced library edition at $39.99.
Bloomsbury noted that this year is the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first "Harry Potter" book in the phenomenally successful series.
The "Potter" books have sold 325 million copies worldwide and been translated into 64 languages, Bloomsbury said.
The last book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sold 2,009,574 copies in Britain on the first day of its release, Bloomsbury said.
The Potter franchise is so important to the company's earnings that it announced the publication to the London Stock Exchange.
Bloomsbury shares were up 2.2 percent to $4.40 after the announcement.

Posted: 2/1/07 at 11:08amThanks for that, Erika. I assumed it was about the last book. Does anyone know anything about differences in the "children" and "Adult" versions or is it going to be a matter of cover and marketing?

Posted: 2/1/07 at 11:11amBluemoon, the "adult" version just has a different cover, with a more serious-looking picture so that adults won't feel silly reading an obviously kiddie book out in public. If I'm not mistaken, adult versions of all the HP books have been published in the UK.

$34.99 marks the first price increase since 2003, so the rumor is that the book is going to be even LONGER than the last ones.
Amazon.com is already accepting preorders and is discounting the title at $18.89.
Some British booksellers are boycotting the book because they are angry at the deep discounting by the major retail chains.

Posted: 2/1/07 at 11:15amWell if it doesn't have a naked Harry on the cover, I ain't buyin'.

Bluemoon, from the looks of it, you could pretty easily make your own adult Harry cover by color copying one of those Equus press photos and gluing it to the book cover.

I've always thought that $20 or more is INSANE to pay for a book (that is why I usually wait for the paperback edition, unless I want to read the book NOW).
HOORAY for the book, but I am sad that this is the last one.

Why? It won't be a blip on the radar for the HP publishers, and will only end up hurting the booksellers themselves.
EDIT: Amazon is smart. Discounting it so much that people will have to buy something else in addition to qualify for free shipping, or pay the shipping cost. Smart Amazon.
I wonder how much B&N will be charging at their stores? I'll most likely go there to get it at midnight.

Whew...I thought this was going to be an announcement that Daniel Radcliffe had decided not to do any more of the Harry Potter movies. I know he's getting older, but if he, or any of the cast, decided not to do them anymore, you know Warner Brothers would replace them, and it would just be too strange. I HATE when they replace people in a series like that.
Anyway, the last Harry book is sad, but we've know the end was coming from nearly the beginning, and I'm kind of anxious to see how it all ends!

Posted: 2/1/07 at 2:26pmI am sooooo excited for this!!!! cannot wait. I just recently read all 6 books, so this will be the first time I'm apart of the craze when a new book is published! I'll be there at midnight.
