Enough of this anti-negativity thing. Everything isn't all sunshine or roses, and disagreement is what makes for good debate. I've seen this whole "stop the negativity" spiel lead to groupthink in other communities, and I'd hate to see it happen here. That said, viciousness isn't called for. (And I have been guilty of it on occassion.) This board does seem to be more negative now than when I joined earlier in the year, but it's at about the right acidity level for me right now. When I joined I thought it was too sweet.

Like I am asking for groupthink! Seriously!

If we ever get too sweet for you again, the OTHER website is ready and waiting for you. They sacrifice people multiple times throughout the day.

jrb-i agree-one of my friends heard me talking about the site, and joined, then left claiming that people here were "hostile and intimidating"

Well, maybe we should have color coded warning labels for the different acidity levels. Your friend could visit when it is BLUE or GREEN around here.

And, in case anyone is curious at what color I think things are now, prompting this thread: We are currently DARK RED.

i can think of more than a few members who would be more than happy with that color and all that it implies every day and twice on sunday.

I've been dying to put that out there ever since I saw the thread title -- sorry to interrupt ...... please continue with your discussion of all things green and chartreuse ... re: we have to make a change around here.

re: we have to make a change around here.

Thank you for saying this. As you personally know JRB-ACTOR, I am one of the brand-new people here and I have to tell you the bitchiness on this board and the "message board" are a turn off. There's nothing wrong with expressing one's opinion or being witty or campy or whatever. The personal attacks however are not an enticement to participate. This is actually the first time I've posted anything. I just didn't feel like being shot down. I've been in the chatroom just once as well. What happened? I was immediately attacked for really being a male "pretending" to be a lesbian! (Why would a guy, gay or straight do that in a non-porn setting???) After convincing people that, yes, I really was a gay woman I had to deal with ridiculous anti-lesbian steroetypes. I had to then convince some jerks that lesbians collect Original Cast Albums, have season tickets to Broadway shows, love Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand (and all the usual suspects) and that we do not wear flannel and Birkenstocks but do have great hair styles and beautifully decorated apartments. So if anyone wonders why intelligent, knowlegeable Broadway fans are wandering away from this board FAST my experience the last two weeks is a great example why. To their credit I did run into a very special Jewish gay guy in CHAT who rushed to my defense. And, of course, I have corresponded briefly with JRB-Actor who has brought up a very important issue. I hope people really take seriously this post of his. We really need a place for lively discussion sans hostility and petty attacks. [End of Sermon]

re: we have to make a change around here.

I've come to enjoy the catty-ness on this board. It's just like talking to theatre people in person so I guess I expect it. I will say that it can be a bit intimidating for new board members who aren't familiar with everyone's personal quirks. If anything, people may want to be a little more careful about stuff they say directly to and about new people who won't know how seriously to take it. We definitely don't want to seriously offend or alienate anyone, but I think the current amount of good-natured ribbing and even bad-natured condescension just enhances lively debate and keeps things nice and SPICY!

re: we have to make a change around here.

Why are we seriously worrying about this? It's just a message board. While I agree that it would be nice if everyone got along, its just probably not very realistic. I mean I think people get offended when someone has a difference of opinion, but if we all felt the same way then there would be no reason for this board to exist. So lets keep our comments within reason, you know don't personally insult someone, and beyond that just let it go.

shesings--that's exactly it: the line has been majorly crossed as of late.

And if some of you still want to rumble--just make sure you are using Jerome Robbins' original choreography. Rob and Craig don't need a lawsuit up in here!

well then I hope the people doing the personal mud-slinging can GET A LIFE! if all you have to do is insult your online message board buddies, well kids then we're crossing into the pathetic grounds.
