Posted: 5/2/05 at 10:02amDon't know the show at all and can't get through the recording but I actually think it's cute that a person is so into it they wear the t-shirt to the show. Sorry Pop. :)

Posted: 5/2/05 at 10:13amSo we're pretty much Polarized...I'm seeing it Wednesday w/ my school and we're doing the whole workshop and such...wasn't sure if I'd look fun or stupid...hmmm

Posted: 5/2/05 at 10:33amI would say sorta Tacky, but if the person isn't one of those over the top rentheads that thinks everyone who doesn't know the show is lame and talks about it incessantly, then it could be cute....if thats an option. I had one of those friends in high schoool, and even as much as I loved Rent I wanted her to shut up most of the time.

One of the things I've learned as I've aged, is to do things that make me happy. If you want to wear a RENT t-shirt to RENT, then go ahead. You only have to please yourself.
The only exception to this is European men who wear socks with sandals...UGH!

I did it once. But just because I was literally on my way out of my house and then realized it was chilly and pouring rain. The shirt is long-sleeved, and SO comfortable, so I grabbed it and left.
Not something I do on a regular basis, though.

Posted: 5/2/05 at 3:32pmI like dressing up for theatre events...this is something that is mainly getting lost in our society...however i like buying t-shirts of the show at the show...i am wearing a rent tee right now!...haha but Whenever i go to a show, i dress up.

Posted: 5/2/05 at 3:34pmI think if the person wants to wear his/her t-shirt to the show it's their own business. It's nobodys business what anybody chooses to wear.

IMO, as long as what you're wearing doesn't qualify as public indecency, then wear whatever you like. Nothing says a Rent t-shirt can't be "dressed up" a little ... you could wear good, intact, not raggedy jeans ... maybe a nice jacket over the tee if you go at night and it's cool enough.
OTOH ... I would assume the purpose of Rent t-shirts, from the production's point of view, is to advertise the show. (Same with any other show's shirts, etc.) If you're AT a performance and wearing one of the shirts, it's like you're preaching to the choir, so to speak. The best place to spread the word about the show via your t-shirt would be to wear it out when you're just chillin', shopping, whatever.
Back to the first hand though, if that's what you want to wear, wear it and have fun and don't worry about what other people think! Life's too short!

>>true but i think that it is out of respect to dress up...<<
Respect? You're not going to a wake. It's a Broadway musical for goodness sakes! If you choose to get dressed up for the occasion that's fine and if the person that happens to sit in the front row decided he wanted to go in a tee shirt emblazoned with the logo of his favorite show, then that's fine too. Live and let live.

Posted: 5/2/05 at 3:54pmYeah, normally I would wear something nice but my teacher picked me to learn some sort of combination to perform onstage during the workshop, so I want to be comfortable and all that jazz. So I figured wearing the shirt onstage might look kinda cool..or something =D

Let's suppose Joe Schmo who weighs 250 pounds and has more hair on his back than a monkey decides to wear his lycra bicycle shorts and tank top? Is that ok?

If Joe Schmo
Doesn't have B.O.
He can go
To the show
In his lycra and tank.
Take that to the bank.

You're damned right it's okay. And if you don't like it you can just look the other way. Who are you to decide who should wear what and how?
