Allie, my birthday is in September, and I had told my mom that it was coming out in October. She gave me a gift certificate to Walmart for when it came out. There were two different ones. One had some kids story with it, and the other one cost more but came in a pretty box, with these cool extras. It had eight reproductions of the beginning parts of the cartoon making process (before they were fine-tuned and coloured). And part of the film strip where she is getting her dress and all the magic is around her. And then this making of book, it's pretty cool. It cost more, but it was worth it.

That's the one I have!! I haven't watched all of the extras yet, but I loved the 40 minute "Making of..." section. And the performance with Perry Como. Amazon

I didn't realize how long that post was. You've all released the crazy fangirl in me. I loved it all, it was brilliant. That movie always makes me happy. And I love all the movies based around the Cinderella story. I liked Ella Enchanted and Ever After.

I also like all of them except Sleeping Beauty- but my favorite was Mulan.

Um...random, yet amazingly almost on-topic. I never got to see any of the Rent blogs, because for some reason there were no accompanying visuals when I tried to play them. Do you think they’ll be on the dvd?

I love the princess movies way too much. I'm 20, and I wear Disney Princess band-aids.

Snowbird, I wish you were here, and we could watch all kinds of Cinderella movies together and dress in pink and eat princess food!

I don't think they will be on the DVD, no. I do wish they hadn't deleted the website, though. I wanted to go back and re-read/watch some of the videos.
And jumping back to childhood tv shows, I was all about Sonic the Hedgehog. It wasn't quite educational, but I loved it. I even had the 6-tails action figure.
And Belle will always be my favorite princess. Bookish, brunette... ME!

"That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." CS, I too love Princess movies, and I sport the Princess band-aids. But above all, Tinkerbell is my favorite Disney character.

Allie, that would be so awesome. My prom dress was light blue (like Cinderella's) and it poofed out at the waist. My wedding dress will probably be similar, just white. I went to the disney store one day with a couple of friends and we tried on all the stuff. Sadly we weren't little enough for the dresses.

My mom did help me make a Alice in Wonderland costume for Halloween my last year of high school. I had really long blonde hair then, so it worked well. My hair's a bit shorter now, but I still randomly wear that costume. Updated On: 2/8/06 at 06:12 PM

The hyperfeminist in me prevents me from liking most of the Disney heroines. I wrote a paper about it for English last year.

You mean you don't need to find Prince Charming to live happily ever after? *mind boggles*

Atrias-- I breifly covered that in English last year, and the true meaning behind many of the Disney stories. I forgot most of them but I think next year I'm taking the analysis of Children's Literature as an elective, which should be interesting

I had to bite my tongue during Women's Studies during the week we discussed Disney movies. Because I had so many arguments to counter, I'm just not good at debates at all.

Allie, my favourite line from Ella Enchanted, when she meets Prince Charmont

Prince (smooth talking British accent): "Please, call me Char."

Allie, dear, this is America. The self-actualized woman does not need a Prince Charming to fulfill her life dreams.

Our school library has the most awesome book-it's an entire anthology of fairy tales and folk stories with kick-ass heroines.

Weird. Last time I tried to check the site, it was gone. Well, I'm glad it is.

Oh gosh, I loved Ella Enchanted!

Atrias, I must say, I am completely shocked to hear this news... Why, I had my gown and glass slippers all ready for the next ball. Amazon

Allie, have you read the book? It's so, SO much better. I did a book report on it in fifth grade. Oh, and go to the ball if you want. It's not *my* problem if you're insecure with yourself as a woman.

Actually, the Fairy Godmother did more to make her dreams come true than the Prince did. He was just a perk.

I haven't read the book! I'll definitely look for it now, though.

A dreamy, dreamy perk he was.

In my freshman and senior years of high school, my English teachers were big on symbolism in fairy tales, plus I read Gregory Maguire's books, so the innocence is spoiled for me.
In the original "Rapunzel," the witch finds out about the prince when the title character, who has about as much brains as your typical female from Nordic folklore, asks her, "Why don't my clothes fit anymore? They are so tight around the middle!"
"Wicked child!"

Yeah, did anyone notice the atypical relationship going on in Rapunzel when they were kids? I was always like, "But where did the babies come from? They didn't get married!"

I could tell you my senior English teacher's take on Rapunzel, but that would lead us into the gutter.

I recently saw The Brothers Grimm, and in the DVD extras, they were talking about how they toned down their own stories from draft to draft... such as the pregnant Rapunzel thing.
