re: Were you ever in OM?

I was in middle school. Our team wasn't too active though, I can only remember going to one meet. Maybe it was two....meh, I've blocked out a lot of my middle school years.

re: Were you ever in OM?

We never had it.

re: Were you ever in OM?

I was in it during middle school. My school won a Sprint National challenge and we went to Disneyworld for it. After that I was just too busy to participate in it any longer.

re: Were you ever in OM?

My mother coached my sister's team for several years. One year they missed going to World by one point to a team they had already beaten that year. The tough part was the winning team could have been penalized for "unsportsmanlike" behavior, but my mom and her co-coach, thinking it would not be necessary and not wanting to play that way, didn't pursue it. They were crushed when they didn't win.

re: Were you ever in OM?

I did it at LOT in elementary school; every year from 2nd-5th grade. My brother's team made it to state once.

I think I did just about every type of challenge...the balsa wood structure was my least favorite by FAR!

re: Were you ever in OM?

I've been in it for 12 years! We have a very dedicated program here. I personally have been to World seven times and won world championship two years in a row. Our coaches consist of a family who have been with the program practically from the beginning, and it is literally their whole life.

re: Were you ever in OM?

Wow! Congrats Becky. That is very impressive.

Although I do worry about your coaches if it is "their whole life"!

I used to wear my OM t-shirts all the time! They were always Wizard of Oz themed. The Wizard of Oz in Kansas...how clever re: Were you ever in OM?

We didn't have it, either. I was on my middle school General Knowledge team, though. It was like College Bowl. We got to the State finals. Didn't win. :-P

In middle school I did Academic League. In high school, I lettered for 3 years in Scholar's Bowl.

I am an official nerd.

re: Were you ever in OM?

I was in scholastic bowl. I was always too timid to buzz in during the actual competitions, though. I did get one question right one time about Boyle's Law.

re: Were you ever in OM?

Well in my school, it was kind of exclusive thing for "gifted" students. I hated that part of it, most of the kids were not gifted, they were just rich and bratty. I got some creative friends in through the years that had been passed over. My school was really unfair and racist, you could tell by looking at someone’s clothes what reading level they were in.
