Westboro Baptist Church has decency?

Originally they were going to protest the funerals of students who died in the VT shooting saying

"The LORD your God sent a crazed madman to shoot at your children, and he didn't miss. Get this straight -- God sent this South Korean madman to kill 31 of your children at Virginia Tech. Was God asleep while this took place? Was He on vacation? Of course not. He willed this to happen to punish you for assailing His servants."


Now on the website it states that the protests have been cancelled and referres to the shooting as a 'tradgety'

It states

Westboro Baptist Church hereby cancels all pending pickets, and agrees not to schedule future pickets, related to The Virginia Tech Massacre, on the following terms and conditions; to wit: In consideration for 3 hours of national radio time with Mike Gallagher on his National Radio Show -- next Tuesday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon New York time -- Westboro Baptist Church has agreed to cancel all pickets now pending and not to schedule future pickets related to The Virginia Tech Massacre. Westboro Baptist Church representatives will appear in studio with Mr. Gallagher, and will freely discuss WBC's religious position relative to such tragedies as The Virginia Tech Massacre.



I wonder what they are going to say about cancelling the protests and what they have to say, and what has changed their mind. Maybe they have realized how stupid they actually are.

but he cancel the protests because he felt they were wrong, or did he have another reason?

He cancelled them for three hours of national radio time. Proving what is already known: Fred Phelps is a heartless publicity whore.

Giving them radio time in exchange for not protesting is like negotiating with terrorists.

i saw the radio time thing in the first post, but i figured he would be getting more than that to cancle the protests... he seem like he would try to get as much as he can out of this.

I'd never visited their website before, but I did now for the first time. I didn't know that their official domain name was godhatesfags.com. For the spiritual agenda of an entire congregation that sounds awfully limiting. The Baptist church that I grew up in may hate homosexuals, but I think even the most washed-in-the-blood members would see this as an unhealthy obsession.

When I heard about this guy wanting to protest at these funerals I thought it was ridiculously self centered, heartless, and sad. I'm glad he's not going to now but how anyone could even think of picketing at someone's funeral when the family is already in so much grief is just horrible. I did visit the official website to find out more because I was curious, and I'm still a little confused about why he thought the protests were necessary. I'm also stunned that he can even begin to call himself Chrsitian or Baptist. I was raised Baptist and I can tell you he is the minority...the people I know are loving and caring and it's really a shame that there is such extremity in any religion...it's not healthy. So, there's my two cents if anyone's itnerested.

this moron protests anything, and blames gays. To give him 3hrs of airtime is just sick, however on the other hand, it does sho people how crazy they are.
Almost all the members are his family.......ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous

Something tells me the church got some threats and they only cancelled the pickets out of fear for their own safety.

That would have made sense Rose. I think they should have let them picket - if only to wake the country up to this groups inbred horror show fully. How many people are actually going to listen to this guy for three hours when we have people like Stern to choose from, at least if they were out in public someone would actually stand up and say "WTF?".
