Westboro Hits My Hometown

My dad is the director of a pretty incredible organization of bikers who spend all year raising money for kids. They donate thousands of toys to the needy, volunteer by playing sports with disabled kids (and fund the program) and completely fund a summer camp for terminally ill kids. They donate thousands to St. Jude and local charities. They may look like Sons of Anarchy, but they are big redneck teddy bears.

Last weekend was their biggest annual fundraiser of the year. They camp out for three days and listen to 20 or so bands and drink lots of beer. They are all on premises, so there's no drunk driving. A great time is usually had by all. On Sunday morning of this event, while I was talking to my mom about the success of this years event, three members of my dad's group, one wife and one girlfriend were all found dead in a camper of carbon monoxide poisoning. Combined they had 11 children. The married couple had one year old twin boys. My brother lost three best friends and my parents lost five young people who were like children to them. The whole group and even town is devastated. The funerals are all this week.

So... cut to tonight. The first funeral is tomorrow. Westboro released a flier tonight and they will be picketing. I can only assume they will be picketing all four funerals, since they will be in town. It's disgusting.

No, JerseyGirl, they got it right. All the information you were reading before was purely lies made up to blind you to the fact that your father and these bikers are evil incarnate. D'uh!

The wasn't the member of ANY group, he was a prospective member of a DANGEROUS group call the Bikers Who Care. lol They have a group chaplain. Big bad dudes, I tell ya.

That's awful. Sorry about all the lives that were lost. I hope those idiots don't get to ruin everything.

I just can't even begin to fathom how the minds of the members of this group work.

Hopefully somebody in your town can organize a counter-protest to try to help shield and support the families who are grieving. Best wishes and prayers to those who lost both family and friends in this tragedy.

I found out by my mother calling me and saying, "You ready to send money to bail me out of jail tomorrow?!" I am much more concerned with one of these guys doing something stupid. Many are former or current military.

It did make me giggle when my mom said, "I will punch that ugly bitch in the mouth!"

I am not sure what the Patriot Guard does exactly, but I know all the guys want to be a part of the funeral. We're wondering if that's why they waited so long to announce this, so the PG wouldn't have time to make plans. I am hoping this will be a very small turn out. If Shirley is there and I am not, I will be greatly disappointed.
