Still a friggin great song and a good video (shades of the "America" scene from West Side Story). Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are geniuses. Paula Abdul's choreography is fierce. I miss Janet's baby fat and her old nose. Sometimes it makes me mad that I was only 1 in 1986. ![]()

So I actually would have been about 8 months old when the song was put out.

Yeah, you certainly have a point, Namo. But hopefully I would've been smoking a lot of tree back then too.
"On their latest albums, two members of pop music's first family move in markedly different directions. While Jermaine regresses toward unmitigated sap, Janet steps out and boldly states that she's not the Jacksons' baby sister anymore."

Major Janet Jackson fan here, own every CD, every video, seen her in concert too many times to count - - - and she never disappoints.
I was at Boxers last Friday night, it was packed and the "Nasty" video came on and the crowd went wild...totally into it, reciting the lyrics and the now classic: "No my first name ain't baby, it's Janet...Miss Jackson if you're nasty!"
After all these years the music still gets people movin'..it still holds up.

Vocal Range: C3-D6 (3 Octaves 1 Note )
Vocal Pluses: Janet Jackson's voice has an overarching sweet and warm timbre that carries throughout the range. The texture of the voice can either be breathy and almost moist, or thicker with a more solid timbre. Her midrange is the strongest part of the range and it's where Janet Jackson find her stride, being able to hit a few notes below and above it without issue. The overall lightness of her timbre allows her to hit the higher chest notes with relative ease, though the resonance/power produced isn't very strong. The head voice is perhaps the most resonant part of the voice, being punchy, bright and of some thickness. Overall Janet has an instantly recognisable voice, which is a must for anyone wishing to differentiate themselves from the "competition" . - See more at:
