re: What can you learn in a year at BWW?

I've learned that there is a board where adults, and teenagers (and younger) can find a common bond and get along......a board where everyone isn't putting everyone down all the time, and where you can have an opinion (most of the time) and not get 100 nasty emails condemning you for it.

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

I've learned that there are many princes in these woods. Sadly, there are wolves and humans, too.

Avoid the wolves, cherish the humans.

Best wishes, Douglas. Thanks for the kind words.

You, and many others, make BWW.com a special place. Moderators only manage the madness. re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

I've learned that my spelling is not the best (thanks Liam for the corrections). Just kidding. And that I have to put "just kidding" after every sentence. Just kidding. I've learned that when you respond to a post and it STOPS the thread, I shouldn't take it personally. And if this one stops after I post, I will take it personally. Not kidding.

Just kidding. You guys are great it's a riot being part of these forums. Thanks for the laughs!

Don't worry, you haven't stopped the thread! DGrant, I don't "know" you very well, but have certainly enjoyed many of your posts. What you say about the difficulties in communicating solely through the written word is so true.

re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

Congrats, DGrant on the one-year! Thanks for your words of encouragement when I need them, and just for being wonderful. re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

What can you learn? You can learn that there are people out there who are willing to bridge almost any age gap, and how powerful a force love for theatre is on that bridge. I'm just a kid, but I've found people nearly twice my age who will have intelligent conversations with me, and respect me, regardless of that number. I'm forever grateful.

You can also learn a lot about yourself. The ability this site has given me to converse about what I love has pointed me on what I know truly believe is the right path. So, one day I messed around and tried to write a "review." Now I want to be a theatre critic. Do I know if I can do it? No, but I'm going to learn. For such knowledge, I am indebted to this website. re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

We haven't always seen eye to eye, but you're one class act DGrant! Thanks for the many thoughtful, insightful and prolific posts.

re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

I've learned, to my constant sorrow, that when our id's are unfettered, with just a pseudonym and a picture to identify us, we are capable of breathtaking acts of horrible cruelty.

But I have also learned that kind words and integrity can outshine the cruelty, even if sometimes it becomes necessary to block users and take breathers.

And I have enjoyed learning from (yes--*learning* from) the irrational exuberance of those on the board who are half my age. I was just as obsessed and passionate when I was their age, but I didn't have an Internet on which to share my passions. I am grateful that their passion inspires and reinvigorates mine.

Congratulations on your anniversary, DGrant.

re: what can you learn in a year at bww?

I learned what the difference is between an understudy and a standby.

I learned where to find all the student rush policies.

I learned when the Rent movie is coming out.

I learned when the Tony nominations are coming out.

I learned how reviews can come out before the actual opening night.

To add a bit of seriousness, a lot was covered, but just...it's amazing how close you can get to someone you've never actually met. Sometimes, it's actually much easier to talk about **** happening with these people.

And funnily enough, that there is someone who at one point I thought was my clone but now I realize is at least my semi-clone who is currently in Hawaii...BWW certainly eclipses distance. re: what can you learn in a year at bww?
