While some of us in the western world bother about equal status for gay marriage, some parts of the world don't even give status to gay people. Read this and weep:

We bother about what it is we are confronted with, but that doesn't mean we're unaware of what many in the rest of the world face.

Despicable comes to mind - and many times with the full sanction and support of the world's churches.

Please don't think I am being negative towards those in our community who fight for our rights, I just wanted to put some kind of perspective on what some gay people in the world face.

As you say "Q" with the full sanction and support of the world's churches.

Seems like an appropriate time to mention that the US was the only major Western nation NOT to sign the UN's Gay Rights Resolution.

Someone or someplace will always have it worse, and as Q suggested, we play the hand we're dealt. While I suppose some might find consolation that it's worse in Senegal, or Iran or whatever, living in a country where states enact laws to restrict the rights of gay people (and/or prevent them from having rights they never had in the first place) isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for gays in America.
