Old Disney: "Alice In Wonderland"
Newer Disney: "The Little Mermaid"
It started with a sipmle idea, collecting one paper clip for every life lost, the feelings that connect us...are greater than those that divide us!

Last I checked, Amasis, Belle was CERTAINLY not searching around to be rescued by a Prince.

My favorite Disney movie, though, has to be The Lion King. It's just such a cinematic treasure with my FAVORITE Disney villain. (Not scariest, because that's Maleficent, but definitely my favorite. Jeremy Irons has a lot to do with it.) Mufasa's death still gets me. Beauty and the Beast does hold a CLOSE second, though. I know someone mentioned it was the first animated film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, and I also believe it was the ONLY and will continue to be, now that animated pictures have their own category.

Taryn -- you're right, she wasn't. And in that sense, neither was Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. In the case of Belle, she was bored in her small town and was longing for something more exciting... and finally found it in the form of a... prince. A major improvement from Snow White, for sure, but I was glad when Mulan came along.

Aladdin holds a special place in my heart but my favorite Disney movie has to be Beauty and the Beast (but that could just be because I got to play Beast in our children's theater.)

Tough call, but The Little Mermaid will always be #1 in my heart!! It was the first movie I can remember wanting to see, and I was SO MAD because my sister got to see it in the theatre, but I was too little to go with her =*( So when it finally came out on video, my aunt bought me my own copy and I have a distinct memory of rewinding the first five minutes a BUCNH of times because my family was being so loud =P I wore that tape out, and I remember one time a friend and I acted out the ENTIRE movie in my pool. It took us 2 hours, which is odd because the movie is only what, 80 minutes or so? =P Anyway yeah, talking about Disney makes me babble, so i'll just stop now!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST! What a timeless, beautiful message. And FINALLY a strong, bright, fairly independent heroine! I love them all though from Mermaid to Lion King to Cinderella.
Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on." - from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

Since it's impossible to say just one, I offer these:

Fantasia - in a class by itself.
Cinderella - the classic fairy tale, and those 50's songs!
Sleeping Beauty - one of the greatest villainesses, but also the most amusing 'magic helpers' - and again, that score! - how can you go wrong with Tchaikovsky? And art direction based on tapestries - beautiful.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - The one for the outcasts - especially adult outcasts who appreciate wonderful theatre music.
Beauty and the Beast - probably the most complete melding of Walt's vision with the sensibilities, awarenesses and talent of current times.
Mulan - as a fan of Chinese watercolor, this art direction at times made me weep with joy.
Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way.

I really enjoyed Tarzan. The music was extremely well-done and I liked the attention to certain details, like the shadows of the jungle leaves on his back. I can't believe I'm going to admit this, but on long road trips, I listen to the Tarzan music. The strong rhythmic music has a driving feel to it.

I'm partial to Sleeping Beauty and Lady & the Tramp. 101 Dalmatians, MattG, is another movie that reminds one of how great hand-drawn animation can be when experienced inside a theater...

Robin Hood and Peter Pan are two other favorites that I sadly haven't seen in at least fifteen years.

One that I really enjoy though few people have seen in the US is Song of the South. For those of you who grew up with Disney Sing Alongs it is where Zipideedoodah originated. (Some of the older posters may have seen it before Disney banned it.) I think I was very lucky to grow up in the "Little Mermaid-Lion King Time period quite a few good movies in a short time span. It is sad that they have moved away from the animated musicals.
My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...

And how can no one have said 101 Dalmations yet??????
I'm not really into the princess movies (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc) but I did like Pochahontas

Finding Nemo and The Emperor's New Groove are good for laughs too re: What's Your Favorite Disney Movie?

God, I LOVE Bedknobs and Broomsticks. And Alice in Wonderland.

If we're talking latter-day Disney, I loved Alladin (sp?) in college, but haven't seen it in YEARS...How do all of Robin Williams' references (Arsenio, etc.) hold up...I'd think it might seem dated?

re: What's Your Favorite Disney Movie?

No one has mentioned EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE? Blasphemy. re: What's Your Favorite Disney Movie?

Anyway, here is mine.

CARTOON:
Aladdin
Emperor's New Groove
Hercules
Monster's Inc (I thought it was WAY better than Finding Nemo)

LIVE ACTION:
Bednobs and Broomsticks
Escape to Witch Mountain
Mary Poppins
Polyanna

There are a few more, but I can't think of them right now. Maybe later. re: What's Your Favorite Disney Movie?

Very easily Fantasia, Saw it when it was re-releaded when I was in college with a friend who was an art major

re: What's Your Favorite Disney Movie?

I just watched my DVD of "Aladdin" last night. I've seen it many times, but finally got to hear songs that were cut. Oh my God...one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard was cut.
"Proud of the Boy"...what an amazing song..yes I cried. Clay Aiken does a tremendous job with it. How sad that this song had to be cut...at least it wasn't lost forever. This song will now live on.
