I want to do Falsettos but the drama teacher isn't buying! What are some good high school (but not overused) shows? She asked us all for our opinions by the way.

You're a Good Man Charlie Brown is good for small high schools. First it depends on how big your department is and if you have a music program where kids can be in choir. I'm guessing you probably have tons of girls.
Is your high school big or small?
Once Upon a Mattress, All Shook Up- just to name a couple. Good luck!
We have about 20 guys who will try out I'm assuming.
Damn Yankees has a lot of guys. So does South Pacific.
Footloose maybe.
Please no Music Man? Thanks.
Music Man was a few years back.
My old high school's doing it.
Oh dear.

I'd love to see a good high school production of Urinetown.
I might get yelled at for saying this but, if you have a good core group of dancers FAME is a fun show. I just worked on a high school production and everyone really enjoyed them selfs.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuBroadway Legend Joined: 7/28/05

people say it's overdone, but I've never actually heard of or seen it getting done, except for when my high school was supposed to do it but couldn't get the rights

Into the Woods calls for a big cast and needs some really good male voices. It is done more often than it should be, as the piece is pure Sondheim, and, as such, calls for real musicians; at any given time there can be 4 different key/time signatures going on at the same time, so you have to be able to mind your own business an stick to your part! The suggestion about FAME was a good one. My D did it 2 summers ago- the cast was huge and the kids had a ball. The dance numbers can be as simple or as complicated as the kids can handle and the vocal ranges called for span a pretty wide range. The show played in London for years- check it out and read about it's success there.
We just saw h2$ I thought it was alright. Iv'e seen WAY better though! She wants it to not be vulgar this year. It being a new auditorium she wants families to see it.
