What's the big deal about Nathan Lane?

I don't understand why people love him so much! I don't see what's so special. To me he's boring, not funny, and I could give a crap about his characters. WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE HIM SO MUCH!?!?

I find him funny in interviews but I was asking myself the same question while looking at the opening night pictures for Butley.

There are plenty of threads and articles around here discussing Nathan Lane. If what you're looking for isn't there, and you know you already feel that way about him, then nothing anyone says in this thread is going to convince you or change your mind.

We all have celebrities we can't stand but most people seem to adore. I could ask the same question about Bernadette Peters, but I already know from reading everything else people have written about her why she's beloved. I also know that it's not going to change my own opinion about her.

Nothing personal -- I just think these kinds of threads are always a little strange. It's like the old saying, "If you have to ask...."

Because some of us see him differently. I personally find him engaging, funny, and I really care about his characters...particularly Max Byalistock, due in no small part to the innate charm of the lovely Nathan Lane.

On the other hand, I have tried several times to get through a single viewing of the original "Producers," and I just can't do it. Don't get that actor's appeal at all.

But that's what makes a horse race!

That actor was Zero Mostel, SM, a performer Lane constantly mentioned every time he won an award for The Producers.

I kinda get the Nathan Lane, but it's a matter of taste. I like high-energy, idiosyncratic performers who can cross genres and forms. Some people like the low-key subtle performer.

I love Woody Allen and many people are repulsed by him. Go figure.

I find him very annoying. I don't care for him. Never had never will. IMO, there are other actors who are well far more talented than him.
