I don't understand why people love it so much! I don't see whats so special. To me it's boring, not funny, and I could give a crap about the characters. WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE IT SO MUCH!?!?

Because some of us see it differently. I personally find it engaging, funny, and I really care about the characters...particularly Betty, due in no small part to the innate charm of the lovely America Ferrera.
On the other hand, I have tried several times to get through a single episode of "Grey's Anatomy," and I just can't do it. Don't get that show's appeal at all.
But that's what makes a horse race!

I can't sit through Grey's Anatomy either.
The only shows I like now are Twenty Good Years, 30 Rock, The Class, and How I Met Your Mother.
EDIT: AND Law & Order SVU....and House...but that's it!

Erika, I agree. She's so winning and lovable. How can you not root for Betty? I also love the campy little wink to the telenovelas (Salma's always getting her clothes ripped off by someone new), the soapy vibe, the mystery with Vanessa/Daniel's dad/the lady in the dark, the underdog heroine...those elements all make it a winning combination to me. And not caring about the characters? I happen to like most of them. Love Betty's dad, her hilarious nephew, Marc, the villainous Wilhemina and, of course, Betty herself.
I think that the other ones you mentioned (The Class and How I Met Your Mother) are awful. Neil Patrick Harris is great, but he can only do so much! Love Law & Order SVU, but honestly I only watch the reruns on TBS. I never watch the new episodes. But a L&O marathon when I'm doing laundry? I'm there.

The main reason I like How I met your Mother is for NPH! Even though the acting isn't great.
I like America's performance but the show itself, no.
i love the one-liners and the stylized camera work and the fantastic colors. it reminds me of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. also, betty and her family are latino without having to explain themselves to non-latinos and best of all-it is GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY. i also think everyone is exceptionally well cast and i like the rapport between the characters.
for example, this exchange between justin, hilda and the dad re justin's halloween costume:
Justin: "I'm not a sailor. I'm Gene Kelly in 'On The Town'!"
Hilda: "Well if any of the kids at school ask, just tell them you're a sailor."
Justin:
"A sailor who can sing and dance. New York, New York, what a wonderful town! The Bronx is up and the Battery's down!" (while tap dancing)
Dad:
"Let's hope he's a sailor who can sing, dance and run."
I believe it was, "Sing, tap, and throw a punch."
Marc told him to learn to run fast the episode before.

Have you all seen Fred Armisten's Ugly Betty impression on SNL? He looks EXACTLY like her!

I'm enjoying it.

I think it's Armisen. Not Armisten. I think he and Amy Poehler are the only funny ones left on that show. But no, I haven't.
