There has been a recent influx of "Want a cool background on your phone? Text 'background' to 66574666464." I see them all the time now. They're starting to get on my nerves.

Oh yes!! What's going on with those! They have the most horribly catchy background music that gets stuck in my head for days on end.

Get used to it folks--there have been many articles in the NYT lately--this is the next big frontier in profits for both the cellular providers (charging customers for customized ring setups) and the record labels (earning royalties on literally every ring of your cell phone); there are huge amounts of money involved (as can be deduced from the $$ being spent on advertising) for all involved.
