Hey this is posted for a friend who is directing a fringe show, your imput would be great! Thanks!
"If one person writes and acts in a show, should they get paid more than the director? or does the director always get the most? should stage managers get paid more than actors?
These are my thoughts, let me know what you think,
Director= 29%
SM= 20%
Writer= 15%
Actors= 12% (x3)
All the acting parts are equal...so the writer/actor would get 27%, director would get 29% and the SM would get 20%....is it ok to pay actors so little?"

In many shows that I've worked on that have dealt with profit sharing, the Writer's fee is an expense. By that I mean, everyone else gets paid after all expenses have been taken out and the writer's fee is one of those expenses. That fee is usually based on the going rate at Dramatists or French which is x amount for the first performance and x amount for each performance after that.
The net profits are then divided among the rest of the cast and crew. My experience has been that the Director does in fact get the most and the stage manager has been paid more than the actors. All companies do not operate on the same basis but that has been my experience. A lot will depend on what is required of your SM and of your cast. There is no set formula for any shows that not in a union.
