What to wear?

What is the purpose of this visit? Only to visit and observe or to actually paricipate? If you need to actually get involved, I'd wear functional clothing. If you are only observing and meeting and talking to people, I'd be more formal...like a black dress shirt and pants. However, this is only my opinion, maybe someone else has different ideas!

Are you interested in a career as an IATSE member? Then, dress in appropriate backstage black!

Cargo pants with a simple black long sleeved shirt should be appropriate.

I'd go with black for sure...or camo (jk). The cargos sound like a good idea. Have fun!

There is no question that he'll be wearing all black. It says in his original post that he was told to wear all black and I gather that he will. He is actually asking whether or not he should dress in nicer clothes or the more traditional "stage hand attire".

I don't agree with the line of thought that was posted earlier that stated no one will be paying attention to you. On some level someone will be watching you or leading you around. If the production is that unionized there is no doubt that you'll likely have someone there who has the primary job of doing nothing but watching you.

Since there is little chance that you'll be asked to participate I say dress a bit nicer. A pair of black chinos/dress pants and a black button down dress shirt would be ideal.

As Clinton and Stacy say..."Dress for the job you want, not the job you have." (even if in this case you want the job of the people who are likely dressing more casual, in all liklihood you that they didn't interview/audition for the job looking that way.)

All that being said, I think the cargo pants and a long sleeve black tee would likely be absolutely adequate, but I am the type who would rather err on the side of being too dressy than too dressed down.
