Hair?
Maybe Lennon? Though i didn't see it.
Folk-rock is a very loose term.
The original HAIR production probably was, subsequently not so much.
Lennon's music is, LENNON was not, which was one of the issues with the show.
Parts of WORKING are very folk rock.
Either or?
Or and?
Meaning a folk musical? Or a folk and rock musical?
Thatis where I am not sure either. They have it printed jusst as I do 'flock/rock' so I don't know, I guess it could go either way....
a multisyllabic way to say "crap".
Hahahaha
The music in Pippin might be considered folk/rock. Not necessarily the content but the styles of the music.

Yeah, I thought of Hair, too... Wasn't sure if it was "folky" enough.
But you're right, it's definitely a folk-rock musical. As is Children of Eden, now that I think about it.
Tommy would be considered a rock musical
It is folk-rock which refers to the idea that the forms have been combined.
The Byrds, The Turtles- original folk-rock groups.
Indigo Girls, Dar Williams- current folk-rock artists.
It was coined to describe what happened when Dylan went electric.
I'm not fond of the shows, but I love the music generally. (Except the Byrds and Turtles, and other commercial groups.)
Thanks everyone! You are all too wonderful!

hey. If you need more ideas for folk/rock musicals, I'd think that Ragtime, or maybe Annie Get Your Gun would be folk. rock musicals I can think of - Grease, Moving Out.
btw, how did your show go last week?

No, Ragtime and Annie Get Your Gun have NOTHING to do with folk-rock.
The folk-rock movement started in the early 1960's. As mentioned earlier, the James Taylor songs in WORKING could be described as folk-rock. Harry Chapin wrote a show called COTTON PATCH GOSPEL which incorporates a folk-rock sound. There is an upcoming musical based on the works fo Bob Dylan which will certainly be folk-rock.
Artists like Simon & Garfunkel, The Mamas & The Papas, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, etc. were part of the folk-rock movement.
