What delicious treats: the snowflakes, champagne, chocolates and seeing so many sweet friends here today. Thank you.
I saw a gesture yesterday which was just beautiful, and ever since then I've been singing this refrain:
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
...I think it's so lovely.
Just wanted to share.

That is such a lovely thought, Addy. What is it from?
And, "Addy Mae" sounds perfect for you. A real southern belle.

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew (all of) you

Thanks, DG. I've never heard that number.
Guess I ought to check out some of the stuff from "Wicked". (It hasn't interested me much because of all the wild threads about it...)

Beacon - don't tell anyone, but there's quite a few of us adults that actually LIKE WICKED . . . I know, it's sacriledge! You might be very surprised at some of the wonderful themes of which it is comprised.
Boobs - Aminda immediately said that was her favorite number - she really IS one of us

Beacon - I was just reading about Kelli O'Hara's last performance in PIAZZA on the main board, and Cookie posted something referencing the 'handprint on the heart' thing. I know Addy was there, so that's probably the gesture she's referring to - although the lyrics are still from WICKED

That's it exactly.
One of my favorite moments in Piazza had been shortly after Clara met Fabrizio. She was heading away, but quickly turned and ran back and gave him an innocent, yet endearing *poke* on the chest.
Yesterday, for the final performance, instead of the poke, she lingered a moment longer and placed her hand on his heart. It was so beautiful - I had tears in my eyes! And, was reminded of that beautiful refrain from Wicked...
beacon, the song, For Good, truly is beautiful. Treat yourself to it! And, DG is right. There are some of us who really loved the show. It was special in many ways.
Thanks for posting more lyrics, Boobs.

NOW I know what all the *poking* has meant in this thread!

One of my favorite gestures on stage.
Though, the handprint now holds an extra special place in my heart...

For no other reason than it's what came to mind:
My favorite stage gesture is at the end of BENT. Horst had explained to Max that conditions were too dangerous at the concentration camp they were interred in to openly show their affection for each other, so he was going to rub his left eyebrow when he wanted to say "I love you". At the end, Horst is about to confront the guards - which will obviously lead to his death - and he looks at Max and rubs his eyebrow. The reaction in Max - of longing, realization and resignation - is one of the most heart-breaking things I've ever witnessed in a theatre.
Not nearly as uplifting as the *poke*, but it is another example of how a simple gesture - and the reaction to it - can mean so much.

I never saw that, but it sounds powerful!
I am often drawn to the small gestures, rather than the grand motions on stage... though just about everything in PIAZZA was perfect. And, as many times as I've seen it, I still see something which adds a new sparkle to it for me.
Such a special show.

Posted: 12/5/05 at 11:34pmDG - I was in a scene from BENT in college, but never read the entire play, that is why we should be given the option to re-do college at 40!!!!

I saw the original Broadway productions of BENT and THE ELEPHANT MAN on the same day 'way back when' - I'm not sure I've ever fully recovered!
Addy - the lobby card from PIAZZA was the only thing we bought on our trip last year
