I arrive June 4 and am staying at the West Side YMCA. I have no clue how I will get from the airport to the YMCA - I will either walk (anyone know if a subway is close enough) or take a cab I guess.

Suggestions? JFK, Newark, or LaGuardia?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I am flying into JFK and taking the subway to my hotel in Manhattan. (Park ave. south) There is a great website called NYC and Company that has links and maps to all the transport options in the NY area. Depending on where the Y is, you should be able to get to it on the Subway.

the subway is a great way to go because it's cheap. BUT only use the subway if you DON'T have much luggage to carry ... and if you have PLENTY of time to get too and from.

For me, I can get the cheapest airfare into LaGuardia ($49). It's only about a $30-35 cabride from there I think. I can't remember if it's a flat rate or not, but I'm going with two other people, so $30 divided by 3 isn't too bad.

I always fly into LaGuardia as well...it is the closest airport to Manhattan so the cab fare is less expensive -- and the time spent in the cab is less too!

Go for which one has the cheapest fare. Newark and LaGuardia, count on delays (just went through that last week at EWR). JFK has fewer delays, and train to the plane, as does EWR, but they are allmost as costly as a cab, which is shareable.

If you fly into LaGuardia, you can take the "airtrain". This will take you from the airport directly to the Jamaica Train Station. From there, it's a 20 minute train ride to Manhattan.

I recommend flying into LaGuardia. In front of the airport, you can catch the M60 bus which takes you into Manhattan via 125th Street. When you get on the bus, ask for a transfer. When you get to 125th Street and Frederick Douglas Blvd, change to an M10 which will go straight down Central Park West and drop you at West 63rd Street. Total cost: $2 (change only, no bills).

I've been able to find a Limousine Service from LGA to midtown for $30, which can actually be cheaper than taking a cab and whole lot more comfortable.

I just flew into Laguardia a few days ago -- which I VASTLY prefer to the other two -- and the cab to my place in Williamburg (which is 5 minutes from the East Village) was $22.

hmmmm, both Spirit Air, and AirTrans, LAX to LGA is $298 and $299
so you are saying I can fly free to Newark, since it's several hundred dollars cheaper?......lol...

From where I live in Palm Springs, it's $384 to JFK......the cheapest right now

Newark is not several hundred dollars cheaper. From this coast, usually LGA is cheaper.....and now and then JFK

but I never remember Newark being cheaper......

Newark is often cheaper for me and if I'm going into the city, it's also one of the easier and cheaper ways to go. I take the train from Penn Station to the Newark Airport--it's like $12 or so, and it only sucks if you're coming in late at night, cause it ain't runnin' then! If I'm heading home to Bushwick, LaG for sure and I've never used JFK.

Newark has always been cheaper for me but I'm coming frm Canada & Kennedy is not an option. I just always felt that Laguardia was too small for the volume of air traffic it had and felt a tiny bit more secure @ Neark. Laso the rtn bus fare to Port Authority was only 22 buck but now that they are no longer directly in the Port Authority buliding I may hafta rethink this.
If all goes well. I may be taking a brief trip into N. Y. C. in Aug w family and if we fly outa Buffalo we land @ J.F.K. so a new adventure awaits!!!

LGA seems a lot less chaotic, so that's why I'd go with it.

NWK is several $100 cheaper? I usually pay only $200-$300 to Florida from LGA. That means they'd owe me money to go from NWK!

The Airtrain runs from JFK to Jamaica Station from where you can pick up the LIRR to Penn Station (15 or 20 mins) or take the E subway line.

Given the choice of bus, subway, or NJTransit, I'd take NJTransit any day.

But if you can afford a cab or car service, go to LaGuardia or JFK.

Newark is worthwhile if it's cheaper, and NJT is better equipped for luggage than NYC buses or subways.

2 weeks ago I flew into Newark from TN for $200. LGA, which is close to my apt, would have been $1000.

Thursday I'm flying in for $550. both other airports were $800

are you doing Priceline to get $200 from FL? I have to be able to pick my times, so I do Orbitz.
