99 Luftballoons (99 Red Balloons) was originally released in German (1983) and re-released in English (1984). The English version had mixed success on the charts across the world, perhaps due to the poor conversion/translation.
can only be Luftballoons
another one hit wonder...... by nena
neun und neunzig Luftballons......
Hast Du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt
a huge hit in Europe in German, much less of a hit in English as Americans really didn't appreciate a song about the folly of war and the end of the world......

Being someone who has been to Germany, and my brother having lived there 2 summers, I have to say I like luftballoons better, as originals mostly are better.
Great song though, I'm glad some people in my area have finally begun to listen to it.

Wow, I feel stupid. I was thinking like, literally, 99 balloons that were red. I had no idea what the hell luftballoons were.

LORNA DOONE
The Lorna Doone shortbread cookie was introduced in 1912. No one, even at Nabisco, is quite sure of exactly how the name was chosen. All that can be said is that R.D. Blackmore, a British novelist, was the author of a popular book titled 'Lorna Doone,' the lead character, Lorna Doone of course, was of Scottish heritage, and shortbread was considered Scottish. Hence, a shortbread cookie named Lorna Doone.

SONG BACKGROUND
This song still gets a lot of play on hits-of-the-'80s radio stations—usually the English version by After the Fire. A German line from that song did, however, became familiar to English-speakers around the world: “Alles klar, Herr Kommissar?” (Got that, Mr. Commissioner?).

That is up there with Falco's "Rock Amadeus" (now everyone echo "Amadeus Amadeus").

I am quite fond of comedian Tim Cavanaugh's parody, "99 Dead Baboons".
"Rock Me Amadeus" also inspired deejay Rick Dees' parody, "Eat Me, I'm a Danish".
