I'm auditioning for a summer program of Fiddler on the Roof, and I am trying for the role of Hodel. I have never audition for a musical with a song from that same musical because personally I find it somewhat tacky, and I have read that it is not a good idea because auditions are meant to show all that you can do.. not just want they would need. But I am feeling somewhat skeptical about that.. This time, however, I am considering doing "Far from the home I love" as my audition piece because I really love and feel that piece of music. But I am wondering if it would be better to sing a different song? I am thinking "Somewhere" - WEST SIDE STORY
Opinions are greatly apreciated, thanks.
P.S. This is a show performed by youth, (if that changes anything.) But it is still a professional company.

I wouldn't limit yourself to that one role, and unless they ask you to sing from the show, don't.
Somewhere is an excellent choice because it feels like "Far From the Home I Love" in vocal quality, acting and story, but it leaves more for the directors to see. You won't be limited with that choice.
